    • The invention provides a process for stabilizing plaster and an apparatus for implementing the moistening part of the process. The process comprises the following steps: a) providing a heated HH-plaster preferably at temperatures over 100° C.; b) feeding the hot plaster in a moistening device having walls heated to at least 100° C.; c) injecting water and/or steam into the moistening device in conditions that such not yet moistened surfaces of the plaster are exposed to the injected water and/or steam; d) maintaining an atmosphere in the moistening device at a level of the dew point in the range of 75 to 99° C.; e) feeding the moistened blend into a curing device; f) maintaining an atmosphere in the curing device above 75° C. for at least 3 minutes; g) feeding the moistened and cured blend into a drying device; and h) drying said moistened and cured blend.The invention also provides an apparatus for moistening β-hemihydrate plaster comprising a rotating drum with lifting blades inside where all walls in contact with the product are externally heated at a temperature above 100° C.The invention finally provides specific uses for plasters obtainable by the process of the invention.

    • An apparatus and process for the separation, recovery and recycling of municipal solid waste (MSW) in which hot water 48 is added to shredded and homogenized MSW 2 as it enters a rotating feed preparation drum 34 equipped with internal lifter blades 36. The blades 36 and rotation of the drum 34 cause mixing and pulping of the MSW before discharge into a rotating thermal processor 56 also equipped with lifter blades 58 and cone section 64, and in which the moist MSW 2 is heated by heating the hot gases in the processor by a flame from burner 62 which converts the moisture in the MSW to steam. The steam permeates through the MSW as it is turned and lifted in the thermal processor 56, causing further pulping. The now cooked and treated MSW 2 is then fed to a conveyor 68 for transportation to a trommel screen for the separation of recyclable components. In a preferred embodiment plugs 70, 72 of MSW are maintained at the exit and entrance to the thermal processor 56 and act to provide a seal to maintain and control the temperature within the thermal processor 56 by reducing the egress of steam therefrom.

    • A mixing apparatus for continuously preparing pulverous to granular thermoplastic synthetic material. The mixing apparatus includes a tubular, rotatably mounted horizontal container, on the inner surface of which mixing instruments or tools are attached. An inlet and outlet for the material to be mixed are respectively located near the ends of the container. A shaft is rotatably arranged about the axis of the container and extends at least over the entire length of the container. Mixing instruments are likewise attached to the shaft. The mixing instruments, in the region between the inlet and outlet, comprise a plurality of sections of single or multi-threaded worms which extend in the radial direction from the shaft to the inner surface of the container. These sections are adjacent to and spaced from one another, and are alternately mounted to the shaft and to the inner surface of the container. The shaft is longitudinally displaceable with regard to the container, and the container and shaft may be rotated in opposite directions to one another.

    • A mixer comprising a rotary driven conical drum into a large end of which sludge and flocculating polymer are introduced, constitutes a contact chamber, and is equipped with baffles and weirs. The sludge and polymer are supplied to a large end of the drum and mixing is accomplished in the large end of the drum where the surface area of the drum is moving most rapidly. Thereafter the mixing action is slowed down by travel of the mixture to the smaller end of the drum, where the surface area of the drum is moving more slowly, to build up the flocs. The sludge/polymer mixture produced in the contact chamber is then discharged through a conduit into any of various types of dewatering devices such as sludge bags, sludge strainers, sludge presses, etc.

    • A device for continuous mixing of powdered materials which include ferro-magnetic components, has a drum mounted for rotation on its own axis and made in the form of a polyhedral truncated pyramid. The drum is disposed with the axis inclined to the horizontal and is fed at one end thereof with powdered materials which are to be thoroughly mixed, and the mixed materials are discharged at the other end. The inside of the drum is provided on its longitudinal edges with rigidly mounted baffles which are made of ferromagnetic material, and the baffles are arranged along a helix. A magnetic system which can generate a pulse magnetic field is stationarily mounted above the drum and parallel to a generatrix of the drum. The magnetic field reaches the inside of the drum through the ferromagnetic baffles which act as cores and aids a redistribution and thorough mixing of the ferromagnetic components with the rest of the components in the powdered material. In order to increase the effect of the pulse magnetic field by effectively increasing the proximity of the baffles to the magnetic system, additional ferromagnetic members may be securingly mounted on the outside of the drum to rotate therewith and arranged so as to nearly bridge a gap between the drum and the magnetic means, whereby the effect of the magnetic field inside the drum is increased.
