摘要： A method for making a golf ball having fiber flock bonded to a core is provided. The fiber flock preferably has high color vibrancy to provide high quality aesthetics. Preferably, the fiber flock comprises fiber segments having a length less than one inch. The fiber segments may have substantially equal dimensions. In other instances, the fiber segments are of unequal dimensions. The golf ball includes a translucent cover layer surrounding the core. Thus, the fiber flock is visible from the exterior of the ball. Special decorative effects can be achieved using colored fiber flock and reflective particulate such as pearlescent pigment in the layers surrounding the core.

摘要： The present invention is directed a golf ball comprising a core of at least one layer, a cover of at least one layer and optionally at least one intermediate layer disposed between the core and the cover, wherein at least one of the core, cover and intermediate layer comprises a color effect providing pigment comprising at least one of: (1) calcium aluminum borosilicate coated with a metal oxide; (2) silicon dioxide platelets coated with metal oxide; and (3) an iron oxide pigment substrate coated with a metal oxide. The color effect providing pigment may have a particle size of from about 5 μm to about 200 μm. In one embodiment, the layer or surface coating comprising the color effect providing pigment further comprises at least one of a thermoset material, a thermoplastic material, an ionomer material, and a highly neutralized polymer material.

摘要： Golf balls containing at least one layer made from a thermoset polyurethane or polyurethane-urea that is the reaction product of a polyisocyanate with moisture-resistant polyol and a curing agent are provided. The moisture-resistant polyol may be prepared by dimerizing unsaturated aliphatic monocarboxylic acid or ester containing 10 to 60 carbon atoms followed by reacting it with a monomeric, oligomeric, or polymeric diol. In one preferred version, the moisture-resistant polyol is a branched polyester polyol containing 36 carbon atoms. The composition can be prepared using prepolymer or one-shot manufacturing techniques. The thermoset composition has good cross-link density. The resulting golf ball has desirable playing performance properties including high resiliency, toughness, impact durability, moisture-resistance, and soft feel.

The method includes placing the core of the golf ball into a vapor barrier composition, withdrawing the lifting device, and spinning and optionally oscillating the core within the composition for a time sufficient for the composition to form a layer on the core. The present invention also provides an apparatus that can be used to form a water vapor barrier layer.

摘要： The present invention is directed to golf balls having a layer formed from a low modulus HNP composition and a layer formed from a high modulus HNP composition. Golf balls of the present invention have at least three layers, including an inner core layer, an outer core layer, a cover, and optionally an intermediate core layer. The present invention is not limited by which golf ball layers are formed from an HNP composition, so long as at least one layer is formed from a low modulus HNP composition and at least one layer is formed from a high modulus RNP composition. Low modulus HNP compositions of the present invention comprise a highly neutralized acid copolymer having a modulus of from 1,000 psi to 50,000 psi. High modulus HNP compositions of the present invention comprise a highly neutralized acid copolymer having a modulus of from 25,000 psi to 150,000 psi.

The core may also have a solid or liquid center or wound layers, and may be constructed from a polybutadiene with mid to high Mooney viscosity. The water vapor barrier layer preferably comprises a copolymer of ethylene and methacrylic acid. The water vapor barrier layer may also have a high flow melt index, such that a thin layer from about 0.030 inch to about 0.005 inch can be achieved.
