    • A penis erection stimulation system comprises one or more infusion needles disposed within and implanted along with one or more housings adjacent the patient's left and right corpora cavernosa. A reservoir and a pump are also implanted inside the patient's body to supply the infusion needle with infusion liquid. A drive unit also adapted for implantation inside the patient's body is arranged for advancing and retracting the tip end of the infusion needle such that it penetrates the housing in at least one penetration area, preferably at least in two different penetration areas either simultaneously or in immediate time succession, thereby injecting drugs along with the infusion liquid into the patient's body for stimulating penis erection. The outer wall of the housing accommodating the infusion needle comprises at least one door in the penetration area or areas. A drive is connected to the door for actively opening the door so as to allow for the infusion needle to be advanced through the opened door. The door may comprise a flap, such as a resilient, normally closed flap. It is particularly preferred if the drive connected to the door forms part of the drive unit coupled to the infusion needle. More specifically, the arrangement may be such that advancement of the infusion needle by means of the drive unit simultaneously causes the drive to open the door.

    • An infusion system includes an implantable housing having a storage reservoir that is dimensioned and arranged to contain a supply of a medication and a holding reservoir that is dimensioned and arranged to receive a dosage of the medication from the storage reservoir. A pump assembly is included for enabling a patient to cause a dosage of the medication to be transferred from the storage reservoir to the holding reservoir, and pressurizing components maintain the dosage under pressure within the holding reservoir in order to cause the dosage to discharge through an output port to the infusion location. One embodiment accomplishes this with an elongated bladder of elastomeric material in fluid communication with the storage reservoir and the output port. The bladder inflates as it fills with the dosage to maintain the dosage under pressure, and a capillary element disposed intermediate the bladder and the output port restricts the rate of discharge. This embodiment allows the dispensing of medication at a uniform constant flow rate.

    • A totally subcutaneously implantable infusion reservoir and pump system includes a variable capacity reservoir for receiving and storing fluid medication for delivery to a catheter which directs the medication to a specific infusion location in the body. In a preferred form of the invention, a control assembly is interposed between the reservoir and the catheter to facilitate and control the transfer of the medication from the reservoir to the catheter in a safe and efficient manner. This control assembly includes a normally closed valve and a pump, both of which are manually actuable by percutaneous pressure when subcutaneously implanted, and defines a portion of a fluid flow conduit between the reservoir and the catheter. Moreover, the control assembly is constructed to prevent the backflow of fluid from the catheter to the reservoir, as well as the unrestricted flow of medication through the control assembly when the normally closed valve is opened. This is accomplished by requiring at least two deliberate and sequential applications of selective pressure to the control assembly before any medication stored in the reservoir can be transferred to the catheter.
