摘要： Intubation devices and methods of intubating a patient are provided. The intubation devices include a laryngeal mask airway (LMA) component having a mask portion and a tube portion and an endotracheal tube (ETT) component positioned in the laryngeal mask airway (LMA) component having a translatable and/or rotatable endotracheal tube. The endotracheal tube can be translated and/or rotated by a manipulation rod extending through the laryngeal mask airway (LMA) component and mounted to the endotracheal tube (ETT). The intubation devices may include inflatable cuffs adapted to manipulate the positioning or orientation of the endotracheal tube and/or to seal openings about the endotracheal tubes. Various ports, passages, and conduits are provided to enhance the use and manipulation of the intubation device.

摘要： A dual-balloon ventilation tube (20) includes a laryngeal ventilation support (34) supported by a distal end (54) of a shaft (50), defining a ventilation port (36), and having a greatest lateral width of 2 to 6 cm, measured between lateral sides (44) of the laryngeal ventilation support (34), such that both of the lateral sides (44) contact laryngeal soft tissue of the pharynx so as to provide lateral support that centers and inhibits tilting of the laryngeal ventilation support (34). An airway tube (56) passes through the shaft (50) and has a distal end (60) that is in fluid communication with the ventilation port (36). A proximal pharyngeal inflatable balloon (30) surrounds a distal portion (62) of the shaft (50) proximal to the laryngeal ventilation support (34), and is configured to make an air-tight seal with the pharynx. A distal esophageal inflatable balloon (32) is disposed distal to the laryngeal ventilation support (34), and is configured to make an air-tight seal with the esophagus. Other embodiments are also described.

摘要： A novel nasogastric tube, that when properly inserted within a person, blocks the esophagus of the person to prevent gastric contents from being aspirated. The tube can be left in place during direct langroscopy and the device can include a preferably inflatable balloon for obstructing the person’s esophagus. This balloon can be preferably provided on a slidable tube that allows for head movement/flexion without movement of the balloon placement. The tube can be a dual or single lumen device. With a duel lumen device, a first lumen can be connected to a suction tubing to suction gastric contents from the distal end of the tube, while the other lumen can open up above the cuff to allow for easier ventilation with a bag valve mask/BVM. A novel endotracheal tube and novel indwelling catheter also incorporating a balloon component are also disclosed.

摘要： An artificial airway assembly for ventilating a patient, is provided, comprising a flexible airway tube having a proximal end and a distal end, adapted to guide a working tool to an operating position to view vocal cords and trachea of the patient, said flexible airway tube comprising at least one locally weakened and tearable course adapted to permit detachment of at least a section of said airway tube while maintaining said working tool in said operating position; and a mask fixedly secured to said distal end of said flexible airway tube, said mask having conforming means for conforming to a space immediately adjacent to the larynx of the patient to properly position said working tool. In alternative embodiments, the assembly further includes an inflatable balloon that directs the airway tube toward the patient's trachea.

摘要： A pulmonary secretion clearing airway structure and related airway management system is disclosed that has a double lumen portion which each lumen of the double lumen portion operably secured to an airway management system so that inspiratory fluid (air/oxygen mixtures, with or without added water vapor) is delivered to the distal end of the ventilation catheter through one of the two lumens and expired inspiratory fluid, pulmonary secretions, and pulmonary fluids are removed from the patient through the other lumen. The expiratory fluid pathway preferably includes a secretion collection system for removing the pulmonary secretions and the like from the pathway, thereby improving operation and safety of the system. The airway structure can be a ventilation catheter or a supraglottic airway system such as laryngeal mask and the like.

摘要： Methods for cerebral cooling are described. Cooling assemblies include elongate tubular members, a reservoir containing a pressurized fluid, and a manifold connecting the reservoir and elongate tubular members. After insertion of the elongate tubular members into the patient's nostrils, a pressurized fluid is delivered onto a surface of the patient's nasal cavity through a plurality of ports in the elongate tubular members. The delivery of the fluid causes cooling by direct heat transfer through the nasopharynx and hematogenous cooling through the carotids and the Circle of Willis.
