    • 1,114,553. Sensing records; electric selective signaling. TECHNICON CORPORATION. 15 Dec., 1965 [24 Dec., 1964], No. 53151/65. Headings G4H and G4M. [Also in Divisions A5 and B4] A tag having markings for identifying an individual and carried by the individual is sensed when a sample or signal is taken from the individual, the container or recorder for the sample or signal having a tag which is marked under the control of the sensing means for the first tag so that the container or recorder has means for identifying the individual. In one embodiment (Fig. 1) the tag 12 is punched in two out of five code and when a sample is being taken the holes in the tag are sensed by feelers (Fig. 5) when a solenoid 82 is energized so that the feelers which engage holes are deflected. The deflection of these feelers result in appropriate ones of solenoids 140 (Fig. 6), being energized to advance their interposer elements between punch elements 104 and a hammer 138. When a hammer solenoid 134 is energized the hammer strikes the interposer elements which have been advanced to punch corresponding notches in the tag attached to the container. Each sample taken may be analysed for different constituents and signals corresponding to the concentration of each constituent fed to storage means which are read by a scanner. The sequential signals from the store are fed through an analogue to digital converter to a format control to which is also fed a signal indicating the individual from whom the sample was taken. This information is then passed from the format control to a recording means which produces a record or it may be fed to a computer or business machine so that any data required may be produced, e.g. abnormality detection, updating of records, billings, periodic reports and statistical studies. In a further embodiment (Fig. 9, not shown) sensors attached to the individual transmit signals representing, for example, blood pressure to remote indicators simultaneously with the transmission of signals representing the individual.
