摘要： A pen format liquid collection device includes an elongate generally tubular housing (12, 112, 212, 312) able to be held by hand and having an opening at one end, and at least one liquid take-up element (30, 130, 230, 330) mounted in the housing so as to be positioned or positionable to project at the opening, the at least one liquid take-up element then further postionable by hand manipulation of the housing to contact a volume of liquid to thereby take-up a sample of the liquid to be analysed. At least one retention element (230a, 330a) is supported in the housing. The at least one liquid take-up element and the at least one retention element are arranged whereby they are relatively movable into contact, and the at least one retention element is adapted on contact to in turn take-up the sample and retain the sample or a component thereof for in situ analysis or later recovery while protected within the housing. The liquid take-up element is preferably a capillary.

摘要： A biological fluid separation device that is adapted to receive a multi-component blood sample is disclosed. After collecting the blood sample, the biological fluid separation device is able to separate a plasma portion from a cellular portion. After separation, the biological fluid separation device is able to transfer the plasma portion of the blood sample to a point-of-care testing device. The biological fluid separation device of the present disclosure also provides a closed separation and transfer system that reduces the exposure of a blood sample and provides fast mixing of a blood sample with a sample stabilizer. The biological fluid separation device is engageable with a blood testing device for closed transfer of a portion of the plasma portion from the biological fluid separation device to the blood testing device. The blood testing device is adapted to receive the plasma portion to analyze the blood sample and obtain test results.

More particularly, a blood glucose testing system is provided that includes a finger guide that is wearable by the subject of the blood glucose test and a glucose meter that is retrofitted with a glucose meter coupler. A method of operating the blood glucose testing system includes the steps of guiding a lancing device to a spot on the subject's finger for producing a blood droplet and guiding a test strip in the glucose meter to the same spot on the subject's finger for testing the blood sample.

摘要： A smartphone protective cover that houses a glucose monitor, test strips, lancets, a lancet striker, a power source, and a biohazard debris receptacle is presented. According to the preferred embodiment of the invention, the protective covering is configured to include a smartphone adapted glucose monitor and also to accept a smartphone. In the preferred embodiment, the smartphone is removably placed into the protective covering with the glucose monitor connecting to a data receptacle on the smartphone. The protective further includes a lancet storage compartment adjacent to a lancet striker having a tension control member and striker release button, a test strip storage compartment, and a biohazard debris receptacle. The lancet storage compartment and test strip storage compartment can be re-fillable or disposable. A battery is also located in the cover and is electrically connected to the glucose for monitor, thus enabling the monitor to be powered independently of the phone. A method of use is also provided.

摘要： An embodiment in accordance with the present invention provides a device and method for collecting cord blood from the umbilical cord and placenta. The device includes a vascular access device, a portable tray container, and a perfusion pump device. The vascular access device includes two vascular access components (VACs) that clamp onto the umbilical cord at the time of delivery to accurately guide cannulation of the vein. After clamping on the VACs, the placenta and VACs are placed into the portable tray container. The portable tray container is a closable and disposable container which features a dock for accepting the VACs and impaling the umbilical vein for vascular access. The dock is also connected to perfusate and collection bags, located on the outside surfaces of the tray. The tray and perfusate and collection bags interfaced with the perfusion pump device to flush out and collect the stem cells from the umbilical cord and placenta.
