    • A method of gluing a single surface of a shoe contains a first-stage processing and a second-stage processing. The first-stage processing includes a sole bonding having a first washing and polishing step, a first surface modifying step, a glue spraying step, and a sole adhering step. The second-stage processing includes a second washing and polishing step, a second surface modifying step, and an adhesive agent coating step. A vamp and sole processing includes a vamp treating step, a treatment agent coating step, and an adhesion forming step. A shoe midsole on which an adhesion promoter is sprayed and a shoe outsole on which adhesive glue is coated are adhered together to finish a shoe sole. The adhesive glue is coated on an upper surface of the shoe sole to adhere with a lower adhering surface of a vamp on which a treatment agent is coated, thus finishing a shoe.

    • For applying adhesive, for lasting shoes from the toe end at least over ball region of the shoe, an imprinter plate and nozzles are used, the region in which adhesive is applied by the imprinter plate extending from the toe end of the shoe and lying within, but being substantially smaller than, the region inwiped by the toe wiper plates. The nozzles, which can be guided by computer control means according to the particular style and size of shoe, are thus also used to apply adhesive to the heelward part of the region inwiped by the wiper plates as well as beyond such region. The invention is thus applicable to both combined toe and side lasting operations as well to extended forepart lasting over the ball region of the shoe.

    • A heel laster to receive a footwear upper assembly and constructed to press, form and last the heel part of the footwear upper assembly. A structure is provided to secure the assembly to the laster; princers stretch the heel part of the upper about the heel region of the last; and a heel pad presses the upper against the last. Then a nozzle is moved and positioned by a mechanical structure along an appropriate adhesive path. The mechanical structure includes a tracer mechanism the includes an adjustable U-shaped cam track and a linkage connected to the nozzle at one end and to a cam follower at the other end thereof such that the cam follower is positioned within the cam track; a driver mechanism is connected to propel the cam follower along the track in the X-Y directions (the nozzle can move in the Z-direction as well to follow contours of the footwear). The heel pad is preferably an inflatable pad. The mechanical tracer mechanism, as a unit, has a predetermined and fixed position relative to the heel pad. The heel laster operates in two steps: first, the pad is pressed against the heel of the upper and, second, the pad is inflated to press into any crevices a the upper surface at the heel region (and the shank region). Then the upper is wiped onto the insole of the assembly.

    • A machine, operable on a shoe assembly formed of a last having an insole located on its bottom and an upper mounted thereon with the toe portion of the upper margin being wiped against and secured to the insole and with an unwiped portion of the upper margin extending heelwardly of the wiped margin portion projecting away from the insole and with segments of the upper margin at the boundaries between the wiped and unwiped margin portions overhanging the insole, for applying cement in the corner between the unwiped margin portion and the corresponding portion of the insole periphery. The cement is applied by a pair of nozzles that each have laterally projecting tips. The nozzles are caused to move in cement applying strokes from the heel end extremity of the shoe assembly to the margin segments while the nozzle tips are retained in the corners with the nozzle tips at the ends of the cement applying strokes each being beneath a margin segment. After the completion of the cement applying strokes, the nozzle tips are moved inwardly of the segments and the nozzles are thereafter moved upwardly of the shoe assembly bottom. The machine is so constructed that, prior to the cement applying strokes, the nozzles are caused to move downwardly against the insole while the tips face towards the heel end of the shoe assembly and are then caused to move heelwardly to positions wherein the nozzles are proximate to the heel end of the upper margin. Mechanism is incorporated in the machine to yieldably urge the nozzles downwardly under a prescribed force against the insole during the cement applying strokes and to relieve the downward force when the nozzles are moving along the uphill gradient of the shank portion of the insole.
