    • A process of preparing an inside-to-outside flow filter tube, which process comprises dispersing a plurality of glass fibers in water to form a water slurry of the fibers, the glass fibers having a diameter range of from about 0.001 to 10 microns; forming a filter tube comprising a wet mat of the glass fibers from the water slurry on a cylidrical mandrel; during the forming of the wet mat of fibers into a filter tube, incorporating an open-scrim, reinforcing sheet material within the internal wall thickness of the wet mat of fibers forming the filter tube, the sheet material extending generally the length of the filter tube and at least about 11/2 revolutions of the filter tube diameter; drying the filter tube containing the scrim sheet material within the filter tube wall; bonding the dried filter tube with a bonding agent at the junction of the glass fiber crossover points and with and through the scrim sheet material; and recovering an integral filter tube having a high burst strength.

    • An improved filter tube holder and a filter assembly in which such holder is used, which holder is adapted to secure a filter tube about a passageway in the mounting or sealing plate of the assembly, and which holder comprises: a closed end cap element disposed on one side of a mounting plate; a mounting bar strip element disposed on the opposite side of the mounting plate; first and second arched strip elements at one and the other end of a tie rod; a end cap element with an opening at the opposite end from the disc element on the one side of the mounting plate; the closed end cap element and the open end cap element adapted to secure in a sealing manner a filter tube therebetween, the tie rod adapted to pass through the passageway and the filter tube; means to secure the first and second strip elements to the tie rod; and a means to move the closed cap element and/or the mounting bar strip element toward each other to secure the filter tube therebetween in a fluid-tight manner about the passageway in the mounting plate.

    • A compressed gas dryer and a method of drying compressed gas, particularly air, which method comprises: intimately contacting a high-pressure, wet, compressed gas stream having a high relative humidity with a hygroscopic liquid absorbent miscible with the water to be removed, and separating the liquid absorbent and compressed gas to provide a wet liquid-absorbent mixture containing the water removed from the gas and a dry compressed gas stream; reducing the liquid-absorbent mixture to a lower pressure than the high pressure of the wet compressed gas stream; intimately contacting the liquid-absorbent mixture with a portion of the dry compressed gas stream at the lower pressure and separating the liquid absorbent from the gas stream to provide a dry liquid absorbent and a lower-pressure gas stream containing the water removed from the liquid-absorbent mixture; recycling the dry liquid absorbent for use in the contacting of the wet compressed gas stream; removing the wet lower pressure gas stream at the lower pressure; and purging the wet lower-pressure gas stream to the atmosphere.
