    • In a pulsed gas laser apparatus for operation at ambient pressure comprising a laser module having a tubular window open at its distal end for the coupling or uncoupling of a laser beam, the tubular window has a volume which is at least equal to, or a multiple of, the volume change of the laser gas in the module during pulsed laser operation and extends essentially vertically from the laser module. The window includes a mixing zone in which during pulsed laser operation both laser gas and ambient gas are present, the window extending downwardly if the laser gas is lighter than the ambient gas and upwardly if the laser gas is heavier than the ambient gas thereby to counteract infiltration of ambient gas into the window. Also, means are provided for controlling the laser gas volume supplied to the module such that the concentration of the ambient gas in the mixing zone in the window remains below a predetermined limit.

    • A method of producing a collar on a cylindrical composite fiber body, wherein the composite fiber body has a longitudinal axis and wherein a plurality of layers of resin impregnated fiber windings are wound to form the composite fiber body, after which the resin is hardened, includes the following steps: (a) forming a bead by winding resin impregnated fiber windings circumferentially about the cylindrical composite fiber body such that the bead has continuously rising flanks on both longitudinally spaced sides; (b) providing two clamping sleeves, each clamping sleeve having an end face extending substantially orthogonally to the longitudinal axis of the composite fiber body, a conical surface portion adjacent the end face, and an interior surface portion which is adjacent the conical surface portion and which conforms to the outer surface of the cylindrical composite fiber body; (c) applying the clamping sleeves about the composite fiber body while the composite fiber body is still wet, such that each end face lies against a respective one of the flanks; (d) tightening the clamping sleeves about the composite fiber body while the composite fiber body is still wet; (e) forming a collar between the end faces while the composite fiber body is still wet, by winding resin impregnated fiber windings circumferentially about the bead; and (f) loosening and releasing the clamping sleeves.

    • A method and system for measuring the dynamical behavior of an elongate body which has a floating electrical potential and only forms a total capacitance with its environment and which has a longitudinal axis about which the body rotates, which method includes a contact-free capacitive measurement of changes in the position of the body transverse to the longitudinal axis by means of at least two measuring probes each disposed to form with the body a respective capacitor having a capacitance value corresponding to the distance between the probe and the body, the measurement being performed by: applying to each measuring probe a respective alternating current signal having a frequency selected such that the frequency of the signal applied to each probe differs from that applied to each other probe by at least a selected frequency difference value; deriving from each probe an output signal having an amplitude representative of the capacitance value of the capacitor formed by that probe with the body; and passing the output signal from each probe through a respective signal processing circuit having a lowpass characteristic with an upper limit frequency value which is less than the selected frequency difference value, which the signal processing circuits associated with all of the probes having the same upper limit frequency value.

    • A tester for use in testing coordinate measuring devices includes a hub having a generally tubular body portion, an outer ring, and a plurality of spokes connected to the hub and to the outer ring, each of the spokes having a generally tubular body portion and extending radially from the hub. A plurality of holders are connected to respective ones of the plurality of spokes, and elements respectively supported by the holders are provided which are adapted for use in testing the coordinates of a measuring device. The generally tubular body portion of the hub and the generally tubular body portion of each of the spokes is composed of a bonded fiber material in which layers of circumferential windings alternate with layers of helical windings, and wherein the helical windings are wound of a fiber which has a negative coefficient of thermal expansion. The holders and the elements respectively supported by the holders are composed of a relatively hard material which has a small positive coefficient of thermal expansion.

The apparatus comprises a multiplicity of centrifuge stages connected in series as a cascade wherein a product header from each stage is connected to a feed header of the next stage in the direction of enrichment and a tails header from each stage is connected to the feed header of the preceding stage, lines connecting feed headers of all stages together, and a cascade feed line, a product line from each stage, and a tail line from each stage having choke valves located therein.
