摘要： A system for accounting for postage expended by a postage meter. The system includes a keyboard and display for entry of commands and postal information, a printer, a memory for storing account records and program data, the memory further including a non-volatile memory for storing account records and other data, an interface to an electronic postage meter, and a processor including a CPU. The processor controls an electronic postage meter through the interface in accordance with the program data and entered postal information to set the meter and then responds to signals from the meter to update account records. The processor may also edit selected account records in accordance with entered information. In one disclosed embodiment the system responds to an operator request to print the account data base by repetitively scanning the account data base and sequentially printing accounts. In another disclosed embodiment the system stores images of accounts to be edited in selected regions of non-volatile memory before beginning to edit the account. These embodiments increase the security of the data in the accounts by avoiding exposure to data loss due to power failures or transients while accounts are being processed. In another disclosed embodiment a record of edited accounts is maintained by the system to allow a service technician to detect unauthorized editing of accounts. In still another disclosed embodiment the system tracks the contents of the postage meter ascending register to detect off-line meter usage.

摘要： The postage system employs encryption techniques to verify that a user has printed postage. The postage at the time of printing is not accounted for by the meter. Accounting occurs at a time subsequent to the printing of postage. The user is provided with a postage validating device which provides an indication on the mailpiece of the validity of the imprint to identify the user and a user account number. Charges for the postage thus printed occur at a subsequent time. The imprint is read, preferably by scanning techniques, to determine validity, amount to be charged and an account number which is charged for the delivery.

摘要： A method and apparatus for generating, and storing for later retrieval, selected voice messages in response to selected verbal input trigger phrases. The voice signals including predetermined trigger phrases are transmitted from an input device such as a multiline telephone to a voice recognition system. The voice recognition system associates the trigger phrases with predetermined blocks of text message and in response to a sequence of trigger phrases, creates a report. The text is then output to a voice synthesizer system for the creation of synthetic voice signals corresponding to the full text of the report and the synthetic voice signals are output to a voice storage and forward system for later retrieval. The system also provides a printed copy of the full text of the report. In one embodiment of the system, an exception dictionary is provided which substitutes replacement words having a modified spelling for exception words whose pronunciation, as synthesized by the voice synthesizer, is not considered acceptable.

The form is made from a single sheet of paper stock and comprises a rectangular upper portion and a rectangular lower portion joined by a connecting portion. The lower portion is printed with message information and the upper portion is printed with address information and the like. The form is then folded once about the upper edge of the connecting portion so that the obverse sides of the upper and lower portions are adjacent and then again so that the upper edge of the upper portion is brought to the lower edge of the connecting portion, so that the upper portion forms an envelope around the lower portion. Adhesive is applied around the edges of the upper portion to seal the resulting envelope. Perforation lines are provided transversely across the form so that after folding a tear-off strip is formed which includes the connecting portion. Thus, when the recipient removes the tear off strip, the lower portion is separated from the upper portion simultaneously with opening of the envelope.

摘要： A geocoding system and method to convert address elements into numbers to match reference data transformed into numeric values and corresponding spatial information is provided. The output of this process is a conversion of an identified address into its address constituents along with a set of geographic coordinate pairs. A set of build rules are applied to construct the reference data with numeric values, so that when matching is performed, the same address output is displayed along with a pair of geographic coordinates. The reference data consists of number codes along with indexes of boundaries, street segments and address points derived from multiple sources. The numeric match method guarantees exact/close match with quick candidate retrieval and no instance of an input address is erroneously represented in output candidate return.

摘要： Systems and methods that allow only a single PSD to be used for a customer regardless of the number of servers in the system are provided. This is accomplished by allowing each server to communicate with the other servers in the system, such that each server can determine which customer PSDs are coupled to each of the other servers. As requests are routed to a first server by the load balancer, if the first server does not have the specific customer's PSD installed, it can determine which server has that customer's PSD and forward the request to that second server. Once the request has been processed by the second server, the response is sent back to the first server that received the request for return to the customer.

Geocoding technology is used to enhance business location information with geographic coordinates. The apparatus further includes a control mechanism for monitoring the buffer to determine a number of sheets currently stored in the buffer. The data source device is coupled to the control mechanism and is operative to provide the pages of print data to the printer in response to control signals from the control mechanism.
