    • Ultrasonic scanning system in which the angular position of a transducer is alternately adjusted about two transverse axes by reversible stepping motors each being adjusted by operating in one direction until obtaining a decrease in the amplitude of a front surface reflection signals, gated to a sample/hold circuit, the direction being reversed to increase the amplitude of the front surface reflection signal to a maximum and to thereby position the axis of the transducer normal to the front surface of a part under test. Another stepping motor is operated to hold a transducer toward or away from the part in response to outputs from sample/hold circuits to which a received video signal is gated during time intervals respectively greater than and less than a time corresponding to a desired spacing, to thereby maintain a substantially fixed distance between a transducer and the part.

    • Regulated ignition amplifier circuit wherein a transistor switch is controlled to build up a regulated constant current through an ignition coil primary winding and then opened to cause an increase in the voltage of both the primary and the secondary windings. A capacitor is charged during closure of the transistor switch from the rectified voltage developed by an oscillator, the oscillator being controlled through regulating circuitry from the voltage across the capacitor to charge the capacitor to a substantially constant voltage. In response to the increase in voltage of the primary winding, the capacitor is discharged through the primary winding by means of a silicon controlled rectifier and a disabling circuit responds to discharge current to disable the oscillator through the regulating circuitry to permit the rectifier to revert to a non-conductive state.

    • Synchronizing means for sequential fuel injection wherein valve actuator means are energized in response to signals from sequencing and timer circuits. Triggering signals are applied to the sequencing circuit, including an indexing pulse developed in predetermined phase relation to each and every power stroke of the engine and a reset pulse in predetermined phase relation to the power stroke of a predetermined one of the engine cylinders. The sequencing circuit includes a digital counter which is indexed by the index pulses and which is reset by the reset pulses. In one embodiment, an index pulse generator is connected to ignition pulse generating means of the engine, preferably in circuit with an ignition coil primary, and a reset pulse generator is connected to one output of the distributor. In another embodiment, the index and reset pulses are generated inductively in response to rotation of engine parts.

    • A piston and cylinder assembly wherein the cylinder includes a closed end portion at one end and a piston-receiving bore at the other end. The cylinder includes a radially extending fluid inlet port communicating with the interior of the cylinder. A piston is receivable through the bore and includes an opening extending transversely therethrough which is adapted to be aligned with the inlet port. A pin is adapted to be inserted through the port into the opening in the piston and serves to limit the movement of the piston outwardly from within the cylinder to retain the piston within the cylinder during normal reciprocating movement thereof.
