    • A purification tower for purifying liquid by contacting the liquid with gas, the purification tower including: (a) a shell; and (b) a plurality of baffles, each of which is fixed to an internal surface of the shell, (i) said each baffle having a flat upper surface and a plurality of openings are formed in each of the baffle so that the liquid and the gas pass through the openings; (ii) any adjacent pair of the baffles are arranged so that a bottom of the shell is covered by the pair of the baffles viewing in an longitudinal direction of the shell. The present invention thus configured can provide a process and an apparatus for the purification of even an organic compound containing a readily-blocking substances, which are capable of continuously purifying such an organic substance over the long time without discontinuing operations.

    • A perforated tray without downcomer in accordance with the present invention satisfies following conditions: (a) The hole has a diameter of 10 mm to 25 mm. (b) Two adjacent holes are spaced by a distance of 1.2 d to 3 d, measured between the two centers. (c) The tray thickness is 2 mm to 8 mm. (d) The opening ratio is 10% to 30%. A perforated tray tower without downcomer fitted with two or more such perforated trays without downcomer in accordance with the present invention satisfies following conditions: (g) Perforated trays are spaced by a distance of 0.1 D to 0.5 D (D denotes the tower diameter). (h) The levelness of each perforated tray is 8 mm or less. (i) If a plurality of perforated trays are used at the same stage, the two most closely located holes that respectively belong to adjacent perforated trays are spaced by a distance of 50 mm to 150 mm, measured between the two centers. By using the perforated tray tower without downcomer, an easily polymerizable compound, such as an (meth)acrylic acid, or a liquid containing such an easily polymerizable compound can be distilled in a stable manner over an extended period of time with the formation of polymers being effectively prevented.

    • For use in a process for the production of (meth)acrylic acid comprising at least a step for the reaction of (meth)acrylic acid by catalytic gas phase oxidation and a step for the absorption thereof, a method for preventing an effluent gas pipe from blocking is disclosed, which method is characterized by causing part or the whole of the gas discharged from the step for absorption, while being circulated via the effluent gas pipe to the step for the reaction or being discarded, to be subjected to temperature elevation and application of pressure and/or mist separation. Particularly by setting the temperature of the waste gas from the absorption column at a level in the range of 30-70° C., it is made possible to decrease the contents of water, low boiling substances, and subliming substances entrained by the waste gas and, coupled with the temperature elevation and the application of pressure implemented in the effluent gas pipe, attain effective prevention of the interior of the effluent gas pipe from blockage and corrosion.
