    • An apparatus for measuring the weight of impurities in a cotton sample, with a double-taker-in-roll mechanism. The apparatus includes the following components: an air current channel, a fiber feeding device located at the front end of the air current channel; a primary taker-in cylinder located behind the fiber feeding construction; a stationary stripping device located near the surface of the primary taker-in cylinder; a secondary taker-in cylinder adjacent to the surface of the primary taker-in cylinder and located behind the primary taker-in cylinder; an impurity collecting apparatus located below the primary taker-in cylinder and the secondary taker-in cylinder; and an impurity measurement apparatus connected with the impurity collecting apparatus. After double impurity removal with the primary taker-in cylinder and the secondary taker-in cylinder, the impurities are removed from the cotton sample more completely compared with the prior single taker-in cylinder structure, making the impurity measurement value more accurate.

    • An invention for determining a rectangular bounding box encompassing a photograph or object(s) represented within a digital image is disclosed. The rectangular bounding box is determined irrespective of the device used to acquire the digital image. First a set of contrast points is derived; these contrast points representing changes in the characteristics of a pixel from that of a traversed neighbor. After ordering the contrast points according to their radial angle around a central reference point, a list of lines is generated by selecting two points separated by q positions in the ordered list of contrast points. If the four lines generated the most often roughly form a rectangle, then they correspond to the sides of the rectangular bounding box. Else, the line with the highest count is used as a base side of the rectangular bounding box. The slopes of the other sides are readily calculated as they are either perpendicular and parallel to base side, and their positions are then determined with reference to the other lines in the list. Once the rectangular bounding box has been determined, the digital photograph is extracted, or a high-resolution scan is performed and the digital photograph is readily extracted from this new high-resolution image based on the corresponding position and size of the rectangular bounding box.

    • A method of selecting and editing a plurality of digitally represented still images in a computer environment is provided. The method includes the use of a graphical user interface having a display and a user interface selection device, and includes the steps of opening the data files of the images to be edited, displaying the images, and displaying a task pane including at least one editing task entry having a specified multiple-image editing task command. A group of all or some of the images is formed by the user selecting the images to be edited, and an editing task execution signal is received which is indicative of the user selecting the desired editing task entry on the task pane. In response to receipt of the editing task execution signal, the specified editing task command is performed on the group of selected still images.
