    • There is provided a vibration damping device including; a pair of rubber arm portions connecting an inner fitting and an outer fitting to each other in the horizontal direction; and a rubber leg portion connecting in the vertical direction; the paired rubber arm portions are formed so that the thickness thereof decreases gradually from the inner fitting side toward the outer fitting side, and the rubber leg portion is formed so that each of both side surfaces is formed by an inwardly depressed curved surface, and is formed into a curved broaden shape toward the outer fitting side. Thereby, a spring constant in the horizontal direction is increased advantageously while a spring constant in the vertical direction kept large, and the durability of the rubber elastic body can be increased effectively.

    • The fuel injection system for a diesel engine comprises a pintle type fuel injection nozzle having a valve needle slidable back and forth in the axial direction thereof between a first position in which its front end portion is inserted in a spray hole and a second position in which its front end portion is retracted from the spray hole, fuel supply means for feeding pressurized fuel to the fuel injection nozzle, and a plunger member which is slidable in the axial direction of the valve needle and provided with a front end face opposed to the rear end face of the valve needle and a rear end face adapted to receive the pressure of the pressurized fuel fed to the fuel injection nozzle from the fuel supply means, the valve needle being adapted to be lifted by a predetermined fuel pressure to a pre-lift position where the rear end face of the valve needle abuts against the front end face of the plunger member so that further lift of the valve needle is suppressed by the fuel pressure acting on the rear end face of the plunger member, thereby changing the valve opening pressure stepwise with change in the amount of lift of the valve. The injection system is provided with pre-lift change means for changing the amount of the pre-lift of the valve needle, an operating condition detecting means for detecting the operating condition of the engine, and a control means for controlling the pre-lift change means according to the output of the operating condition detecting means.

    • An air-fuel ratio control system for an internal combustion engine including an automobile carburetor having a fuel passage for forming a combustible air-fuel mixture by mixing fuel fed through the fuel passage with air drawn from the atmosphere, comprises a catalytic converter for substantially purifying exhaust gases emitted from the engine, a composition sensor for sensing the concentration of a component of the exhaust gases as a function of the air-fuel mixing ratio of the combustible mixture burned in the engine, a first air bleed passage leading from the atmosphere to the fuel passage, a first actuator for controlling the flow of air through the first air bleed passage, an air-fuel ratio control for controlling the duty ratio of the first actuator in dependence on the output signal fed thereto from the composition sensor, a second air bleed passage leading from the atmosphere to the fuel passage, a second actuator for controlling the flow of air through the second air bleed passage, and an air bleed control for controlling the second actuator to permit the flow of the air to the fuel passage through the second air bleed passage together with the air flowing through the first air bleed passage only when the duty ratio of the first actuator attains a predetermined value.
