Side members (31) of a sub frame (30) are stronger than the outward bent portions (11A, 12A) and the front end positions (K1) of the outward bent portions (11A, 12A) are arranged on the inside in the vehicle width direction and on the rear side in the vehicle fore and aft direction of the front end positions (K2) of the outward bent portions (11A, 12A).

    • A vehicle body structure includes a floor structure 1. The floor structure 1 has a floor body 3 formed with generally-uniform sections in a vehicle's fore-and-aft direction, a dash cross member 11 connected with a front end of the floor body 3 and a rear cross member 13 connected with a rear end of the floor body 3. A side sill 5 is arranged on one side of the floor structure 1. A pillar 21 is connected with the side sill 5 through its lower end 21a. In the structure, a strength adjusting part 29 is formed in the side sill 5, for adjusting the strength of the side sill 5 in local. When the vehicle has a frank collision, the strength adjusting part 29 operates to reduce a collision reactive force generated on the side of the lower end 21a of the pillar 21 in comparison with the collision reactive force generated besides the lower end 21a of the pillar 21.

    • A front body structure includes a front-wheel movement promoting mechanism arranged between a front wheel (22) and a suspension member (19) that promotes a backward movement of the front wheel (22) when a collision load (F1) is applied to the front wheel (22) while being accompanied with a backward deformation of the outer end (12a) of a bumper reinforcement (12). The front-wheel movement promoting mechanism may be a notch (35) formed in the suspension member (19) to allow the front wheel (22) to move backward in early stages of the collision. Then, the front wheel (22) interferes with an outrigger (15) and a side sill (14), preventing a vehicle cabin from being deformed.

    • A front body structure is provided to restrain a collision load, which has been applied on a front wheel by a vehicle front collision, to be concentrated on a front end of a side sill excessively. In the structure, a front energy absorbing member 23 is attached to a back face of a lateral end of a bumper 21. A recess 18 is formed by a front end of the side sill 7 and a front face of an outrigger 15. A rear energy absorbing member 19 is attached into the recess 18. The outrigger 15 connects the side sill 7 with a front side member extension 5 joined to the rear end of a front side member 3. At the vehicle front collision, the front energy absorbing member 23 interferes with the right-and-front part of the front wheel 1 to allow the left-and-front part of the front wheel 1 to interfere with the side face of the front side member 3 and also allow the rear part of the wheel 1 to interfere with the rear energy absorbing member 19.
