    • A hand-held dispensing device operable to dispense a fluid as an atomized spray by hydraulic pressure. The device includes a cartridge containing a fluid to be dispensed and a pressure-multiplying piston pump operable by liquefied gas pressure and manually controlled by a valve. The pump is configured to receive pressure from a compartment containing liquefied gas and transmit higher pressure to the fluid to be dispensed. The pressure multiplying pump produces high pressure, typically between 6-30 bar, which is suitable for generation of fine spray by hydraulic atomization. The device uses about 1/10th the amount of liquefied gas compared to a propellant-based aerosol therefore it has a significant ecological and health benefits.

The aperture plate is mounted on a support member that includes a second material that has an opening such that the aperture plate covers the opening, and where the first and second materials have similar galvanic potentials.

    • The present invention provides an ink-jet ejection device which is capable of ejection or ink (including hot melt ink) jet frequencies greater than 50,000 Hz. A cantilevered beam of selected shape is mounted at its base to a piezoelectric element which oscillates the base. The beam is shaped so that its moment of inertia is reduced toward its free end. The element is activated by an oscillating electrical signal the frequency of which is equal to or close to a natural frequency of oscillation of the beam. In the preferred embodiment herein a third or higher modal frequency is utilized. Because of the structural configuration of the cantilevered beam and the selected frequency of oscillation thereof, the tip of the beam oscillates over an amplitude which is significantly greater than the oscillation amplitude of the base. The beam is highly damped and made of low density material so that the tip amplitude is extremely responsive to variations in the base amplitude. The tip of the beam is provided with an aperture which is preferably tapered in cross-section. One opening of the tapered aperture is in fluid communication with a reservoir of ink and the other opening of the aperture is positioned at an appropriate distance from a recording medium such as paper towards which individual droplets of ink from the reservoir are to be propelled. When the tip amplitude is above a predetermined threshold the solid-fluid interaction between the tapered aperture and the ink causes a drop of ink to accelerate through the aperture and be ejected upon each excursion of the tip of the beam toward the printing media.

    • Systems, devices and methods are provided, for acquiring and dispensing predetermined volumes of liquids and, in particular, to a unique piezoelectric dispenser for acquiring and dispensing of small volumes of fluid in an automatic or manual production of DNA arrays and assays, wherein droplets are dispensed in a single drop format with volumes that may range from about a few picoliters to several nanoliters. The dispenser can advantageously utilize a disposable capillary tube assembly while desirably retaining the piezoelectric actuator for subsequent further uses, thereby mitigating the possibility of cross contamination of fluids and providing an economical and cost effective approach with reuse of the piezoelectric actuator for further operation such as with a variety of liquids to be dispensed and transferred. A unique longitudinal transducer can transmit radial tube displacement into controlled axial motion of the tube.
