摘要： In an internal combustion engine comprising a valve operating device which is disposed in a cylinder head coupled to an upper surface of a cylinder block and which includes a valve operating cam shaft connected to a crank shaft rotatably carried in a lower engine body portion including the cylinder block, and valve operation characteristic changing means for changing, in accordance with a variation in hydraulic pressure in a hydraulic pressure chamber, the operation characteristics of an engine valve which is supported in the cylinder head for opening and closing, a lower oil supply system and an upper oil supply system are disposed independently of each other. The lower oil supply system is comprised of a first oil pump connected to individual oil consumption parts disposed in a lower engine body portion for supplying a first oil, and the upper oil supply system is comprised of a second oil pump connected to individual oil consumption parts included in the valve operating device as well as to the hydraulic pressure chamber for supplying a second oil. This ensures that the second oil pump can be disposed in proximity to the hydraulic pressure chamber, so that an oil having a characteristic suitable for the operation of the valve operation characteristic changing means can be supplied quickly, and the cycle of replacement of the oil in the upper oil supply system can be prolonged.

摘要： A control system for an internal combustion engine includes a heat flux sensor arranged in the combustion chamber of the engine, for detecting the heat flux within the combustion chamber. An ECU controls at least one of the amount of fuel supplied to the engine, the fuel injection timing, and the ignition timing of the engine according to operating conditions of the engine. The heat flux sensor detects the heat flux at timing within a range from the latter half of the exhaust stroke of each of the cylinders of the combustion cycle of the engine to the first half of the compression stroke of the following combustion cycle. At least one of the amount of fuel, the fuel injection timing, and the ignition timing is corrected based on the detected heat flux in the same stroke as the compression stroke of the following combustion cycle in which the heat flux has been detected.

摘要： A valve operating system in an internal combustion engine comprises an operating-force generating means for generating an operating force corresponding to the revolution of the engine, an operating-force applying means for operating an engine valve, a hydraulic transmitting means capable of hydraulically transmitting the operating force between the operating-force generating means and the operating-force applying means, a mechanical transmitting means capable of rigidly transmitting the operating force between the operating-force generating means and the operating-force applying means, and a selective switchover means capable of alternatively switching-over the transmissions of the operating force from the operating-force generating means to the operating-force applying means by the hydraulic transmitting means and by the mechanical transmitting means. Thus, it is possible to select either the transmission of the operating force by the hydraulic transmitting means or the transmission of the operating force by the mechanical transmitting means to insure a reliable operation of the engine valve.

摘要： A valve operating device for an internal combustion engine that includes a valve piston having one end facing into a damper chamber and the other end operatively coupled to an intake or exhaust valve which is spring-biased in a closing direction. A cam piston has one end operatively coupled to a cam drivable by a crankshaft and the other end disposed in a working oil chamber. A restriction mechanism uniformly restricts oil flow during final valve closing operation of the intake or exhaust valve until the valve is fully closed. The working oil chamber and damper chamber are held in communication with each other through the restriction mechanism. A bypass passage interconnects the damper chamber and the working oil chamber in bypassing relation to the restriction mechanism. A variable restriction mechanism is provided in the bypass passage capable of varying the area for oil flow according to valve closing characteristics required by the viscosity of working oil and operating conditions of the engine.
