    • A cooling system including redundant fan controllers. The cooling system includes a first fan controller coupled to control a first plurality of fans and a second fan controller coupled to control a second plurality of fans. During operation, the first plurality of fans and the second plurality of fans operate concurrently. The first fan controller and the second fan controller are each configured to monitor the first and the second plurality of fans and to detect a failure in any of the first and the second plurality of fans. Further, in response to detecting a failure of a fan of the first plurality of fans, the second fan controller is configured to increase an operating speed of a corresponding fan of the second plurality of fans.

    • A plunger alignment fitting and method for cold chamber die casting machine are characterized by an axial center pointer or indicator and a tube guide therefor which is receivable in the shot chamber of the die casting machine. The tube guide has axially spaced, tapered annular shoulders which are in axial alignment with each other and the center pointer and such shoulders are centered to respective ends of the shot chamber by centering rings or plungers which have circumferentially arranged, equal length bearing elements constrained therein for radial movement. The bearing elements have radially inner and outer bearing ends which respectively engage the tapered shoulders and interior wall of the shot chamber when the centering rings are urged axially towards the shoulders by hand tightenable nuts threaded on the ends of the tube guide. The tube guide accordingly is centered and supported in the shot chamber by the bearing elements. The center pointer includes a center rod which is axially slidable in the tube guide and a hand tightenable, quick connect collet coupling permits easy and quick connection of different length center rod extensions to the center rod. The different length center rod extensions alternately mechanically identify center points on the center axis of the shot chamber for the plunger at extended and retracted positions thereof and the plunger is adjusted to such center points at each alternate position.

    • A method and system for allowing multiple tasks to share virtual memory areas, in a memory management system for a computer, uses a data structure which maintains a list of address spaces shared by more than one task. For each entry in this list, a list of slots in virtual address space is maintained in the data structure, where each slot contains indications that said shared memory was mapped into a task. An offset table of directory pages is also maintained, and each entry in this directory points to a directory page for a task. The directory page entries for all of such directory pages points to a page table entry. An entry in each of the offset tables points to the entry in the list of shared address spaces for this set.

    • A method and system for allowing multiple tasks to share virtual memory areas, in a memory management system for a computer, uses an independent address space created such that it can be "attached" to multiple address spaces. Any change to the shared address space is reflected in all attached address spaces with just one operation to the shared address space. Entities in the shared address space require only one set of system resources. Since the same powerPC virtual segment ID is used for all attached address spaces, only one set of powerPC page table entries is needed. A feature is attaching shared memory with and without control privileges to provide protection; tasks with privilege can manipulate the address space using the same operations and base addresses as in the non-shared normal address space, and tasks with normal attachment can only reference the memory objects in the overlaid shared address space--memory objects can not be created or destroyed.
