    • The cup tappet (1) of the invention for a valve train of an internal combustion engine comprises a hollow cylindrical skirt (2) whose one end (3) is connected to a bottom (5) for making contact with a cam. The skirt (2) has a clearly smaller height than the overall height of the cup tappet (1), and the bottom (5) rises in a roof-like taper from said end (3). By virtue of this configuration, the bottom (5) has a very high rigidity, so that it is possible to minimize its thickness ‘d’ significantly compared to thicknesses of prior art cup tappet bottoms.

    • A hydraulic support element for a switchable cam follower of a valve drive of an internal combustion engine, which has a pot-like housing with a bore, a pressure piston formed in one piece with an external casing and head projecting over an edge of the housing and a high pressure space for a hydraulic medium. The high pressure space is supplied, via a non-return valve from a first reservoir space, which is fed via first passages in the housing and pressure piston. A second reservoir space is formed in the pressure piston axially above the first reservoir space and is filled by second passages in the housing and pressure piston. From the second reservoir space a hydraulic medium is conducted to the cam follower via an opening in the head. The reservoir spaces are separated by a ball around which the internal wall of the pressure piston is wrapped.

    • A cup-shaped valve tappet (1) for activating a gas exchange valve is provided. The tappet includes a hollow cylinder (2) and a base (3). In the interior of the cup-shaped valve tappet (1), a funnel (6) is situated which has a guide casing (9) for accommodation of a play compensation element (10). The guide casing (9) is overlapped by an internal shell (21) provided with an axial channel (23). In order to prevent an emptying of the annular oil storage space (18) surrounding the guide casing (9) or the inner shell (21), a diverting element (19) is provided which consists of a disk-like section (20) and an outer shell which extends from the disk-like section (20). This outer shell (22) forms a hollow space (25) with the hollow cylinder (2) which is connected to a bore hole (17) and from out of which an overflow opening (26) leads into the annular oil storage space (18).
