The shuttle valve (50, 150) may include a one way build orifice (30, 30 A, 130) which permits restricted fluid flow between a pressure source (18, 101, 201) and the wheel brake (16, 116A-D, 216A-D), a feedback orifice (36, 36A) which permits restricted fluid flow from the pressure source (18) to the master cylinder (12), a pump check valve (23, 123) which prevents fluid flow from the shuttle valve (50, 150) back toward the pressure source (18, 101, 201) and a poppet check valve or floating feedback washer (38, 38A) which when displaced permits fluid flow from the master cylinder (12) toward the wheel brake (16).

    • A hydraulic braking system including first and second braking circuits. The first and second braking circuits each include a wheel brake, a pressurized fluid source, and a hydraulic conduit connecting the wheel brake to the fluid source. Each of the hydraulic conduits includes a control valve that operates to selectively prevent fluid flow from the pressurized fluid source to the wheel brake. A connecting conduit connects the first and second braking circuits. A floating piston is disposed within the connecting conduit and is adapted to be displaced by the pressurized fluid provided by the pressurized fluid source in the first braking circuit when the control valve of the first braking circuit is closed. The displacement of the piston generates an additional volume of pressurized fluid in the hydraulic conduit of the second braking circuit that effectively augments the pressurized fluid provided by the second pressurized fluid source.

    • A valve includes a valve body, a flux tube, and a winding. The body defines first and second passageways, and a circular opening is defined in the second passageway providing fluid communication between the passageways. The flux tube has a closed end, an open end, and a hollow armature receiving section. The open end is in fluid communication with the first passageway. A spherical armature is disposed in the armature receiving section for reciprocating movement between a closed position sealing against the circular opening to prevent communication between the passageways and an open position spaced apart from the opening permitting communication between the passageways. The winding is disposed about the flux tube for electromagnetically positioning the armature. The flux tube forms a fluid tight pressure boundary between the winding and the passageways. A spring urges the armature toward one of the open position and the closed position.

During operation of the solenoid valve (40), the shuttle valve (50) can slide and displace the washer (90) into engagement with a body member (91) of the solenoid valve (40) and cause pressurized fluid from the master cylinder passage (14) and pressure source passage (20) to communicate through an orifice (92) of the washer (90).

    • The ABS pump output pulsation dampening device (59) comprises a body (10) having disposed therein a pressure source (12) communicating with an inlet line (14) that transmits pressure to an outlet line (16) via an accumulator or storage chamber (20). The body (10) receives at an open end (13) a spring (38) operated accumulator (30) having an accumulator piston (36) received within said accumulator chamber (20). One end (50) of the accumulator piston (36) includes an interior opening (32) which receives slideably and with clearance a dampening piston (60) and a resilient member (62) which biases the dampening piston (60) into engagement with a seat (15) at the end of the inlet line (14). The dampening piston (60) includes an orifice (64) at an one end (63) adjacent the seat (15) and which communicates with a passage (65) extending through the dampening piston (60). Low fluid pressure pulsations transmitted by the pressure source (12) are dampened by the dampening piston (62) as the low pressure fluid is transmitted through the orifice (64), passage (65), interior opening (52), and clearance to the outlet line (16). Beyond a predetermined pressure level, the dampening piston (60) disengages the seat (15) to permit fluid flow therepast.

    • The shuttle valve (10) has a valve member (30) which includes first (32) and second (36) diameter sections disposed within small diameter (22), reduced diameter (24), and enlarged diameter (26) bore sections of a stepped bore (14) located in a valve body (12). Located about the first diameter section (32) of the valve member (30) is a freely movable orifice member (90) which includes a radial orifice opening (94) at one surface thereof. The sudden communication of high fluid pressure through the inlet opening (50) results in a slightly delayed displacement of the valve member (30) and movable orifice member (90), and the displacement of the valve member (30) and movable orifice member (90) then causing fluid to be communicated through the movable orifice opening (94) so that fluid communication with the outlet opening (40) is restricted.
