    • An electronic circuit equipment including a substantially box-shaped case main body (10) for defining a sealed interior space therein and an electronic circuit board (11) having a plurality of electronic components (12) thereon. The case main body (10) comprises a case body (13) and a flat plate-shaped lid (17) positioned properly with respect to the case body (13) to seal the interior space. A vent hole (20) is formed in the bottom wall of the case body (13) for communicating the interior of the case body (13) with ambient atmosphere. A cover member is attached to the case body (13) to cover the vent hole hermetically. By using a cover member, the interior space of the case body (13) is sealed for protecting electronic components (12) on the electronic circuit board (11) from moisture and rainwater and, for absorbing a pressure fluctuation therein. A mounting flange extends from the case body and surrounds the vent hole. The cover member is a flexible diaphragm with a circumferential bulge. The flexible diaphragm is fastened to the mounting flange by a press-fit elastic U-shaped ring which presses the circumferential bulge against the mounting flange so as to form a hermetic seal.

    • The invention provides a sensing device capable of outputting a correct signal precisely corresponding to a particular position (angle) of, for example a protruding or recessed portion of a rotating member made of a magnetic material. The sensing device includes: a magnet for generating magnetic field; a rotary member of magnetic material for changing a magnetic field generated by the magnet, the rotary member of magnetic material being disposed a predetermined distance apart from the magnet; and a giant magnetoresistance device for detecting the varying magnetic field, the operating range of the giant magnetoresistance device being set such that the change in resistance of the giant magnetoresistance device is uniform over the entire operating range in both directions of change in the magnetic field induced by the rotary member of magnetic material, wherein the giant magnetoresistance device is disposed in such a manner that the center of the magnetic field sensing plane of the giant magnetoresistance device deviates from the center of the magnet in a direction parallel to a plane containing the displacement direction of the rotary member of magnetic material.

    • An engine control apparatus and method can prevent hunting during engine deceleration in a reliable manner, thereby improving the driving sensation or comfort of the driver of a vehicle. An air/fuel mixture is supplied to engine cylinders through an intake passage with a throttle valve disposed therein, and a bypass passage with an air valve disposed therein is connected with the intake passage for bypassing the throttle valve to supply auxiliary air to the cylinders. An electronic control unit includes a deceleration determining section for determining whether the engine is decelerating and for determining whether the rotational speed of the engine is equal to or less than a predetermined reference value, a deceleration processing section for performing a deceleration processing whereby the amount of auxiliary air is swiftly increased to a maximum and then gradually decreased when the engine rotational speed becomes equal to or less than the predetermined reference value during engine deceleration, and a deceleration processing disabling section for determining whether a deceleration processing is being performed and for disabling the deceleration determining section when the deceleration processing is being performed. Thus, even if the engine rotational speed, having once fallen below the reference speed, rises above it and then falls below it during the deceleration processing, the deceleration processing disabling section disables the decelerating determining section whereby the engine rotational speed can be gradually and smoothly reduced to an idling speed without hunting.

    • An engine control apparatus for a multi-cylinder engine is provided which precisely controls a plurality of groups of cylinders on the basis of a plurality of reference position sensors, each of which senses a reference crank position of a corresponding group of cylinders. The apparatus generates control signals for controlling the plurality of groups of cylinders even in the event of a failure of any one of the sensors thus providing a fail-safe operation. The sensors generate output signals, in synchronization with the crankshaft, which are feed to an OR gate which generates a single output signal each time a signal is received from the sensors. The output signal from the OR gate is feed to an interrupt terminal of a microcomputer whereupon the latter starts an interrupt processing which identifies the group of cylinders corresponding to the output signal and generates control signals. In another form, a rotation sensor successively senses a rotational angle of a ring gear which rotates in synchronism with the crankshaft and generates a pulse signal which is counted by a counter. The counter generates an output signal indicative of a counted number. The microcomputer generates control signals based upon the output signal of the counter as well as the output signals from the sensors. In the event of a failure of any one of the sensors, the microcomputer generates control signals based on the output signals from the other normally operating sensors.
