摘要： Copolymers which contain, as copolymerized monomer units, monoethylenically unsaturated mono- and dicarboxylic acids are prepared by a process in which(a) from 10 to 60% by weight of a monoethylenically unsaturated dicarboxylic acid of 4 to 6 carbon atoms, its salt and/or, if appropriate, its anhydride,(b) from 90 to 40% by weight of a monothylenically unsaturated monocarboxylic acid of 3 to 10 carbon atoms and/or its salt and(c) from 0 to 20% by weight of another, carboxyl-free monoethylenically unsaturated monomer which is copolymerizable with (a) and (b),the percentages being based on the sum of the monomers, are polymerized in the presence of from 0.5 to 5% by weight of a water-soluble free-radical-forming initiator in an aqueous medium at from 60.degree. to 150.degree. C., and, if appropriate, their anhydride groups are hydrolyzed, the monomers (a) and (b) being employed in a form such that from 20 to 80% of their amount is neutralized during the polymerization reaction, wherein the copolymerization is carried out continuously in a reactor cascade comprising several reactors, and an aqueous solution of a pre-prepared copolymer of (a), (b) and, if appropriate, (c) is initially introduced into all the reactors and heated to the required reaction temperature, the total amount of unneutralized or partially neutralized (a), not less than 40% by weight of unneutralized or partially neutralized (b), where relevant, all or some of (c), and some or all of the amount of initiator required for polymerization, with or without the amount of neutralizing agent required for the neutralization according to the definition, are metered into the first reactor, the remaining amount of unneutralized or neutralized (b) and, where relevant, (c), and any remaining amount of initiator and neutralizing agent which may be required are introduced into the second reactor or are distributed over the second reactor and the downstream reactors, and the reactants are allowed to react together during a residence time of from 0.5 to 8 hours. The above copolymers can be used as incrustation inhibitors or for scaling inhibition.

摘要： Water-soluble polymer powders are prepared by polymerizing water-soluble ethylenically unsaturated monomers in a powder bed in the presence of polymerization initiators and water while maintaining the powder state, removing the heat of polymerization by distilling off water and circulating the reaction mixture, by a process in which water-insoluble organic peroxides which are liquid at 20.degree. C. are used alone or as a mixture with up to 50% by weight, based on the initiator mixture, of water-soluble, organic azo initiators and/or water-insoluble solid peroxy-containing compounds, as polymerization initiators.

摘要： Oxyalkylated, carboxyl-containing polymers are prepared by reacting(A) a polymer which contains one or more monoethylenically unsaturated C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 -carboxylic acids as copolymerized units with(B) an alkylene oxidein an aqueous medium at not more than 120.degree. C. by a process in which the reaction is started at a pH of from 5.0 to 5.9 and is ended after a pH of from 5.5 to 8.5 has been reached. As a result of monitoring of the pH, the selectivity of the addition reaction of alkylene oxides with the polymers (A) is substantially improved compared with known processes.

摘要： Maleic anhydride copolymer powders are prepared by a process wherein a solution or dispersion of maleic anhydride in an alkyl vinyl ether and/or an alkene, containing from 3 to 25 moles of the alkyl vinyl ether and/or alkene per mole of maleic anhydride, is brought into contact with a powder bed under polymerization conditions, and is polymerized in the bed while the reaction mass is circulated and the powder state is maintained, and the heat generated during polymerization is removed by evaporating excess monomer which boils lower than maleic anhydride.

摘要： Liquid, alkaline detergent formulations which contain as essential constituents a surfactant, water and 0.1-20% by weight of partially esterified copolymers are obtainable by the copolymerization of(a) one or more C.sub.4 -C.sub.28 -olefins and(b) ethylenically unsaturated dicarboxylic anhydrides of from 4 to 8 carbon atomsin a molar ratio of 1:1 and subsequent partial esterification of the copolymers of the reaction products(A) C.sub.1 -C.sub.30 -alcohols, C.sub.8 -C.sub.22 fatty acids, C.sub.1 -C.sub.12 -alkylphenols or secondary C.sub.2 -C.sub.30 -amines with(B) one or more C.sub.2 -C.sub.4 -alkylene oxides or tetrahydrofuranin a molar ratio of (A):(B) of from 1:2 to 1:50 and hydrolysis of the anhydride groups of the copolymer to carboxyl groups, the partial esterification of the copolymers being carried on until more than 5 to 50% of the carboxyl groups of the copolymers have been esterified.

摘要： Pulverulent polymers of acrylic acid and methacrylic acid are prepared by polymerizing (a) from 100 to 70% by weight of acrylic acid, methacrylic acid or a mixture thereof and (b) from 0 to 30% by weight of vinylsulfonic acid or an alkali metal salt thereof in a monohydric C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 -alcohol, water or a mixture thereof in a pulverulent bed in the presence of a polymerization initiator and from 0.05 to 10 mol % of thiocarboxylic acid and/or a mercaptoalcohol and from 0.05 to 10 mol % of propionic acid or formic acid as regulators, each percentage being based on the monomers used in the polymerization, by maintaining the pulverulent state during the polymerization, removing the heat of polymerization by distilling off the solvent and recirculating the reaction mixture.
