    • This invention provides an optical transmitter in which reduced power consumption is achieved by, when a signal generator needs data transmission, driving a laser emitting device to perform emission. An optical transmitter includes a receiver, a laser driving circuit, a light emitting unit constituted by a plurality of laser emitting devices, and an EDID memory. The receiver and the laser driving circuit are supplied with power from a dedicated external power supply through a power-supply line, and the power-supply line is provided with a switch. The contact of the switch is controlled to open and close based on a power-supply voltage supplied from the DDC controller to the EDID memory.

    • The invention provides an optical module, in which a surface-emitting laser and an optical fiber are coupled, with the optical axes thereof crossed at a predetermined angle, at low cost. A supporting member supports the end of an optical fiber, in which the extending direction of a through hole and a face at the optical fiber end are orthogonal to each other. A surface-emitting laser and the supporting member are coupled by metal projections having different heights, so that a light-emitting face of the surface-emitting laser and the face of the supporting member are disposed so as to be opposed to each other at a predetermined angle. After the projections are formed on an electrode and metal patterns on the surface of the surface-emitting laser by a method based on wire bonding, the leading ends thereof are fixed to metal patterns of the supporting member by ultrasonic welding.

    • A light emitting element driving circuit drives a surface-emitting element, and the light emitting element driving circuit is equipped with a bias current driving circuit that supplies a generally constant bias current to the surface-emitting element, a modulation current driving circuit that supplies to the surface-emitting element a modulation current superimposed on the bias current, and a temperature detection circuit that detects the temperature of the surface-emitting element, wherein the modulation current driving circuit decreases the current amount of the modulation current, when the temperature detected rises.
