    • Biased blind side fasteners and related methods for temporarily securing together at least two work pieces that each define a hole through which at least a portion of the fastener may pass. Fastener embodiments include an elongate, hollow case for substantially housing a generally cylindrical collet body and a bias element for urging the collet body into the case, and at least partially housing a central rod having a proximal end linked to a proximal portion of the case by a web element and a distal end extending from the case. Such embodiments further include a translatable plunger for temporarily overcoming the urging of the bias element and causing extension of the collet body away from the case, thereby permitting insertion of a fastener into the work pieces' holes, wherein the plunger is formed to substantially translatably pass through the web element.

    • An expandable collet body and anchor system incorporating a collet body anti-rotation feature and preferably collet body translation arresting means are disclosed. The collet body includes a first end, a first wall portion having at least two fingers, a second end including a head, a second wall portion, an annular protrusion and anti-rotation means where the anti-rotation means engages with an auxiliary structure defining a hole having an internal surface adapted to translationally accept the collet body and operatively function with the collet body anti-rotation means. The auxiliary may include a work piece to be optionally joined to another structure or a sleeve insert locatable in a hole defined by a work piece. Because the collet body is relatively free to translate within the auxiliary structure, a wide spectrum of work piece depths can be engaged with a single length collet body with the use of a stud to radially expand the fingers, thereby engaging a distal structure.

    • A tool to grip the outer periphery of an object being adaptable, for example, to remove a collar locked to the threaded shaft of a frangible fastener or operate as a drill stop. The tool includes an outer cylinder having a threaded portion and an inner cylinder having complementary threaded portion. A collet is disposed in the volume defined by the outer cylinder and is positioned to receive an axial force from the inner cylinder when translated via rotation with respect to the outer cylinder. The collet has a segment removed to permit the collet to decrease in size upon application of a constrictive radial force. The collet further has a frusto-conical outer surface that acts upon a complementary surface on the inner portion of the outer cylinder. When the collet is acted upon by the inner cylinder, a compressive radial force is applied thereto, which results in the collet constricting to securely and nearly uniformly grasp any object located within the collet. If adapted for use as a drill stop, an end stop can be rotatably coupled to the outer cylinder to prevent unintentional damage to the material being drilled.

    • A tool to remove a locked collar locked to the threaded shaft of a frangible fastener, having a collet with gripping means and inner grasping teeth has a segment removed to permit the collet to decrease in size. An outer cylinder with inner threads are sloped contrary to the threads locking the collar to the fastener shaft and a bottom inner tapered portion. An inner cylinder with matching threads and torquing means is torqued with respect to the outer cylinder to translate within the outer cylinder, urging the collet within into inner beveled portion of the outer cylinder thereby closing the collet to surround and grasp the locked collar. While the shaft of the fastener is held, further torquing imparts rotational force to the collar in an opening direction.

At least a portion of an interior surface of the collet body is threaded to rotationally receive a threaded stud. The stud includes a head, a body portion being at least partially threaded, a distal end and at least one radially extending protrusion at or proximate to the distal end. The protrusion may be circumferentially continuous or discontinuous. The stud body portion is sized to fit through the collet body second end, and to prevent dislocation of the stud from the collet body once inserted in a collet body, the maximum diameter of the stud at the radially extending protrusion is greater than the minimum diameter of any essentially non-elastic portion of the collet body.

    • An automatically adjustable socket transferring torque a range of bolt heads sizes in either direction comprises a pair of jaws slidable angled to a center cylinder and urged outward to a receiving position so that when the socket is set upon a bolt head the bolt head impresses the jaws towards the center cylinder, angularly so that the jaws maintain a parallel orientation to the bolt head faces. An upper cylinder and a lower cylinder surrounding the center cylinder each having complementary double arch rims interact as torque is applied to the upper cylinder, first to separate the two cylinders the bottom cylinder further impressing the jaws upon the bolt head until the jaws are maximally closed upon the bolt head the double arch rims then providing a torque transfer means from the upper cylinder to the lower cylinder. The lower cylinder transfers torque to the jaws through torque transfer surfaces to the jaws tangential to the bolt head. The invention also contemplates adapting jaws gripping surfaces to transfer torque to other configurations of objects to be torqued and adapting the socket to different sources of torque.
