    • A dual power path drive for rotatably driving a threshing rotor of an agricultural combine. The drive includes a planetary gear arrangement having an output connected to the rotor for rotation therewith, a rotatable input connected in rotatably driven relation to a rotatable output of a rotatable power source such as a fluid motor of a hydro-static drive controllably operable for variably rotating the output of the fluid motor, and the gear arrangement including an input connectable by engagement of a device such as an engine-to-ring clutch in rotatably driven relation to a rotatable output of an engine of the combine, the clutch including faces connected in rotatably driven relation to the engine and to the ring gear for rotation therewith, respectively. The drive is reengageable in driving relation to the rotor while the output of the engine and the rotor are rotating, by the steps of; (a) operating the engine-to-ring clutch or other device or rotating the rotatable power source to bring the faces of the engine-to-ring clutch to about the same rotational speed; and then (b) fully engaging the clutch or device. If the initial rotor speed is within a much lower hydro-static speed range of the drive, a ring-to-frame clutch can be engaged in conjunction with the operation of the fluid motor for increasing the rotor speed from the hydro-static range to a range wherein the engine-to-ring clutch or other device can be slipped.

    • The transmission includes a planetary gear arrangement having a rotatable output, a first rotatable input connected to an output of a fluid motor, and a second rotatable input connected to a clutch or other device engageable or operable for connecting the second input to a rotatable mechanical power source. The transmission includes a fluid operated brake or other device engageable or operable when fluid therein is pressurized for connecting the second input of the gear arrangement to a fixed member for preventing rotation of the second input.     • An electronic control system for a transmission in a work vehicle such as an agricultural tractor is disclosed herein. The system includes sensors for detecting the output speed of the vehicle engine, the output speed of the transmission and the vehicle ground speed. Command devices are available to the vehicle operator for generating command signals, such as for commanding the direction of movement, as well as forward and reverse gear ratios. A controller receives signals from the sensors and command devices, and controls engagement and disengagement of combinations of fluid clutches in the transmission to obtain desired gear ratios between the transmission input and output shafts. The command devices include an input device for generating transmission command signals, and the controller responds by selectively engaging the clutches to shift the transmission at a predetermined shift rate. The controller determines a commanded gear ratio based at least in part on the transmission command signals. When the commanded gear ratio differs from the current gear ratio by more than a predetermined number of gear ratios, the controller accesses a table stored in a memory circuit to determine a skip shift value associated with the current gear ratio and selectively engages the clutches to skip shift from the current gear ratio to the commanded gear ratio by a number of gear ratios determined by the accessed skip shift value.

    • A control system for a work vehicle transmission includes a sensor for detecting the output speed of the vehicle engine and an operator-movable command device for placing the transmission in a neutral condition. The transmission includes a plurality of intermeshing gears, and clutches associated with certain of the gears for selectively placing the transmission in various gear ratios for driving the vehicle. The clutches are engaged and disengaged by fluid valving in response to energization of solenoid coils driven by valve driver circuits. The sensor, the command device and the driver circuits are coupled to a control circuit, preferably including a microprocessor, for controlling engagement and disengagement of the transmission clutches. Upon startup, the control circuit disables the driver circuits to place the transmission in a neutral condition despite the position of the command device. The control circuit maintains the driver circuits disabled until the vehicle engine is running, as indicated by the speed sensor, and a neutral command signal is received. The neutral start routine serves as a redundant system with an analog neutral start circuit that normally disables the vehicle starter unless a neutral transmission condition is commanded upon startup. The system thus provides a neutral start feature in the event the neutral start circuit fails or is defeated, such as by jump starting the vehicle engine.

    • A control system for shifting a vehicle transmission, such as in work vehicles, includes sensors for detecting the output speed of the vehicle engine, the output speed of the transmission and the vehicle ground speed. A controller receives signals from the sensors and command devices and controls engagement and disengagement of combinations of fluid clutches in the transmission to obtain desired gear ratios. The controller implements a ground-speed-matching control routine following operator-induced disengagement and re-engagement signals in which the controller compares the current ground speed to a threshold speed and enters into either a ground-speed-matching sequence or an alternative gear ratio selection sequence depending upon whether the ground speed is higher or lower than the threshold speed. Each routine results in selection of a gear ratio. The selected gear ratio is then limited by the last commanded gear ratio. The gear ratio selected in either the alternative sequence of the ground-speed-matching sequence is then engaged by the controller.

    • An electro-hydraulic control system includes a plurality of two-position control valves, each controlling fluid flow into and out of a corresponding one of a plurality of hydraulic functions. First and second pressure responsive servo actuators associated with each control valve operate to move each control valve to first and second positions, respectively. A two-position, solenoid-operated, pilot valve controls fluid flow into and out of a pilot circuit. The pilot circuit communicates fluid to and from the second servo actuator of each control valve and to and from a plurality of two-position, soleniod-operated, pilot valves. Each pilot valve controls fluid flow into and out of the first servo actuator of a corresponding one of the control valves. A detent mechanism holds each control valve in either its first or its second position in the absence of fluid pressure in the servo actuators. A particular hydraulic function may be actuated by momentary energization of particular solenoids of the rest and/or the pilot valves.
