    • A piston type compressor has a plurality of cylinder bores in which a plurality of pistons reciprocate to effect suction, compression and discharge of refrigerant gas in response to rotation of a drive shaft. The compressor has a gas receiving chamber for receiving the refrigerant gas before compression, a discharge chamber for receiving the compressed gas, and at least one rotary valve mounted on the drive shaft to be rotatable with the drive shaft. The rotary valve has a suction passageway for providing fluid communication between the gas receiving chamber and each of the compression chambers formed in the cylinder bores. A groove is provided on the outer circumferential wall of the rotary valve. The groove is connected with the outlet of the suction passageway and extends to a vicinity of the opposing end portions along the outer circumferential wall. The groove supplies the lubricant oil within the refrigerant gas in the suction passageway to and between the outer circumferential wall of the rotary valve and the inner wall of the recessed chamber during the rotation of the rotary valve.

    • A refrigerant gas suction valve mechanism for a reciprocating piston type compressor is disclosed. The mechanism has a drive shaft rotatably disposed in a gas receiving chamber where uncompressed gas is introduced, Double- headed pistons provided in cylinder bores compress the gas when the pistons move from the bottom dead center to the top dead center. A suction port selectively permits and blocks communication between the suction passage and the compression chambers. A resilient member holds a rotary valve in contact with an inner wall of a recessed chamber with predetermined force. The suction port is maintained at a predetermined distance from a point where the pistons reach the top dead center so that the suction port is closed by the pistons before the pistons reach the top dead center.

    • A piston type compressor is disclosed, which comprises a cylinder block having axial cylinder bores, pistons defining compression chambers in the bores, a drive shaft, and a gas suction and discharge chambers in a housing. A valve receiving chamber is formed around the drive shaft in the cylinder block, for accommodating a rotary valve which rotates in synchronism with rotation of the drive shaft. The rotary valve has a bypass passage formed therein, for permitting one communication passage, isolated from both the compression chambers and the gas suction chamber, to communicate with another communication passage corresponding to a compression chamber in a compression stroke.

    • A piston type compressor is disclosed, which includes pistons disposed in bores of a cylinder block, to be reciprocated by a piston driving mechanism in cooperation with a drive shaft. A valve receiving chamber is formed around the drive shaft in the cylinder block, for receiving a rotary valve to rotate together with the drive shaft. The rotary valve has a suction passage formed therein for providing gases from a gas suction chamber to a compression chamber defined in each bore. A plurality of communication passages are formed in the cylinder block in association with the compression chambers, to provide gas communication between the compression chambers and the valve's suction passage. A bypass passage is formed on the rotary valve, and permits one communication passage, associated with one of the compression chambers which is at a final stage of a compression stroke, to communicate with another communication passage, associated with another compression chamber which is at a start stage of the compression stroke. The compressor further includes a device, provided on an outer surface of each piston, for catching gas axially leaking along the outer surface of the piston. The gas catching device guides gas, caught by the gas catching device at the final stage of the compression stroke, to the communication passage corresponding to its associated compression chamber.

    • A swash plate type compressor which includes a pair of cylinder blocks. The cylinder blocks contains a crank case and a plurality of cylinders leading to a suction port. A pair of housing sections cover the cylinder blocks, and contain a suction chamber leading to each about the center of the cylinders, and a discharge chamber which is fluidly connected to the cylinders. The cylinder blocks rotatably support a drive shaft. The suction chamber contains a shaft sealing device in order to seal a forward section of the drive shaft. A refrigerant fluid within the crank case is sucked into the cylinders via the suction chamber. A refrigerant passage is provided along the central axis of the drive shaft. A plurality of inlet and outlet ports are connected to the refrigerant passage and to the crank case and suction chamber. The refrigerant passage, the outlet ports and the inlet ports form a refrigerant suction passage. Consequently, the refrigerant concentration in the suction chamber is rendered uniform, and the reliability of the shaft sealing device is improved.

    • A swash plate type compressor comprises a cylinder block cooperating to form therein a compartment accommodating therein a swash plate and also serving as a suction chamber of the compressor, and a drive shaft rotatably supported in the cylinder block and having formed therein an axial discharge passage connecting front and rear discharge chambers. The compressor further includes a pair of front and rear rotary type suction valves mounted on the drive shaft for rotation therewith and fitted in bores formed centrally in the cylinder block such that one axial end thereof is exposed to suction pressure and the other end to discharge pressure of the refrigerant gas. Each suction valve has formed therein a passage which is in constant communication with the swash plate compartment and is operable to bring its passage in communication successively with fluid working chambers in synchronism with the rotation of the drive shaft. The drive shaft is formed with a lubricating oil hole extending radially from its central discharge passage to its outer periphery and directed to feed lubricating oil toward the sliding contact surfaces between the suction valve and its accommodation bore.

By so doing, a high contrast ratio may be maintained, while transmittance of the liquid crystal panel may be improved.
