    • The present invention has an object to provide an exhaust device for a diesel engine capable of surely burning flammable gas in an exhaust route.In the exhaust device for the diesel engine, liquid fuel (6) is supplied from a liquid-fuel supply source (5) to a gas generator (3). The gas generator (3) converts the liquid fuel (6) to flammable gas (7) and has a flammable-gas flow outlet (9) of the with which an exhaust route (1) is communicated upstream of a diesel-particulate-filter (2). The flammable gas (7) flowed out from the flammable-gas flow outlet (9) is burnt with oxygen in exhaust gas (10) to produce combustion heat. The exhaust gas (10) heated by the thus produced combustion heat can burn the exhaust-gas fine particles remaining at the filter (2). The gas generator (3) is provided with a catalyst chamber (51) which houses a catalyst (4). Catalyst-combustion heat is generated in the catalyst chamber (51) which is arranged along an external periphery of a peripheral wall (1a) of the exhaust route (1).

    • An exhaust device for a diesel engine supplies liquid fuel (6) from a supply source (5) of the liquid fuel (6) to a gas generator (3) which converts the liquid fuel (6) to flammable gas (7) and from which a flammable-gas supply passage (8) is conducted, the flammable-gas supply passage (8) having a flammable-gas outlet (9) communicated with an exhaust-gas route (1) upstream of a diesel-particulate-filter (2), the flammable gas (7) flowed out of the flammable-gas outlet (9) being burnt in exhaust gas (10) to generate combustion heat which can burn fine particles of the exhaust gas (10) remaining at the filter (2). In this exhaust device for a diesel engine, a case (11) for containing the filter (2) accommodates at least part of the gas generator (3).

    • The present invention has an object to provide an exhaust-gas processing device for a diesel engine, able to inhibit the deterioration of the fuel-consumption and the output reduction.In order to accomplish the above object, the device is provided with a DPF, a means for presuming the amount of PM to be deposited on the DPF, a DPF-regeneration means, a DPF-regeneration control means, a storing means, a means for sending message to demand an accelerated regeneration, and an operation means for starting the accelerated regeneration. While a normal regeneration processing is being continued (S6) since it has started (S2), the time when a term (T1) for reserving judgment as to the demand for accelerated regeneration has elapsed is taken as the judging time (T3). At this judging time (T3), if the assumed value of the PM deposed amount exceeds a value (J2) for judgment as to the demand for accelerated regeneration, the accelerated regeneration is deemed to be demanded. Then the DPF-regeneration control means allows the means for sending message to demand the accelerated regeneration to start (S8) sending the message to demand the accelerated regeneration.

    • The present invention provides a multi-cylinder engine capable of inhibiting an EGR cooler from being damaged and at the same time making the EGR cooler compact. On the assumption that a direction where a crank shaft spans is taken as a front and rear direction and a widthwise direction of a cylinder head (2) perpendicular to this front and rear direction is deemed as a lateral direction, an intake-air distributing passage wall (3) is attached to one lateral side surface of the cylinder head (2) and an exhaust-gas converging passage wall (4) is attached to the other lateral side of the cylinder head (2), the exhaust-gas converging passage wall (4) having an interior area communicated with an interior area of the intake-air distributing passage wall (3) through the EGR cooler (6). In this multi-cylinder engine, an intake-air inlet pipe (5) is made to stand up at an upper portion of the intake-air distributing passage wall (3) and the EGR cooler (6) spans above the intake-air distributing passage wall (3). Further, the intake-air inlet pipe (5) is arranged side by side with the EGR cooler (6).

    • A cylinder block for multi-cylinder engine includes a cooling water passage provided at a head-side portion of a cast metal inter-bore wall. The cooling water passage includes a plurality of vertically adjoining transverse water passages provided in vertical and multiple stages. A connecting wall portion of the cooling water passage includes at least one cast metal connecting wall connecting a front wall portion of the inter-bore wall to a rear half wall portion thereby separating the vertically adjoining transverse water passages from each other. The cooling water passage has its cast metal wall surface which faces a water passage spaced exposed in its entirety as a molded surface. The cooling water passage further includes a pair of left and right rising water passages to permit cooling water flowing within a left and right cylinder jacket of the block that is introduced into the cooling water induction portions to flow into the cooling water passage and thence upwardly out of the block via the rising water passages to circulate in a head jacket located above the block. Left and right cylinder head tightening boss portions having under surfaces are provided, and cooling water induction portions are arranged in proximity to the under surfaces of the boss portions.
