    • When a receiver unit receives second data composed of check bits and first data obtained by encoding information bits indicating the communication contents by way of a first generator matrix based on a first generating polynomial, and then further encoding the first data by way of a second generator matrix of an irreducible standard form based on a second generating polynomial, an error location detector decodes the second data received by way of a second check matrix that is orthogonal to the second generator matrix so as to detect errors produced in the first data. A dummy syndrome generator generates a dummy syndrome of the error produced in the information bits based on the detected error location and on the first generating polynomial. A syndrome generator takes the product of the data obtained by excluding the check bits from the second data received by the receiver unit and the first check matrix that is orthogonal to the first generator matrix so as to generate a syndrome that indicates the error syndrome produced in the information bits. Finally, an error corrector corrects errors produced in the information bits if the dummy syndrome generated by the dummy syndrome generator is the same as the syndrome generated by the syndrome generator.

The processor comprises buffers for storing processed picture data for a line processed immediately before a line currently being processed, picture data on a line subsequent to the line processed immediately before a line currently being processed, and not-yet-processed picture data on a line currently being processed, respectively. The data stored in the buffers and picture data currently being scanned are selectively supplied to a logic circuit, and picture data in the line currently being processed are processed.

    • A communication apparatus is provided, which is capable of selecting the communication rate at high speeds with increased reliability along with a communication rate selecting method for use therein. An TCH number in this station detecting means 21 is provided for detecting a number of TCH to be assigned by a base station. An detected TCH number notify control means 22 is operatively responsive to receipt of the TCH number as detected by the TCH number in this station detecting means 21 for notifying it to a connected station under communication. An TCH number in connected station detecting means 23 is operable to monitor a received signal from the communication with connected station for detection of a TCH number as presently assigned thereto by the base station. A communication rate request/instruction reception means 24 is for receiving a communication rate switching request from a user via a key input unit 30. A communication rate switching control means 25 performs a communication rate switching control operation in accordance with the TCH number detected by the TCH number in this station detecting means 21 and the TCH number detected by the TCH number in connected station detecting means 23 as well as the communication rate switching request from the user.

    • A diaphragm valve can properly mount a peripheral portion of a diaphragm over the entire periphery and reliably establish a seal between the peripheral edge portion on a liquid side of the diaphragm and a diaphragm mounting seat for preventing leakage of a liquid. The diaphragm valve includes an annular base (27) provided to project from a seat surface of mounting seat (12) for a predetermined height and connected with a bracket mounting flange (16) on the side of valve operating portion by bolts (17). A diaphragm retaining portion (30) is formed integrally with flange (16) for compressing the peripheral edge portion of diaphragm with a constant pressure so that flange (16) and base (27) are connected by bolts (17) in the condition where diaphragm (14) is compressed onto base (12) with constant pressure by diaphragm retaining portion (30).
