摘要： Conventional ball-in-tube, gas-damped, crash sensors utilize a gold plated ball to bridge two contacts. When the ball senses acceleration (deceleration) in the longitudinal direction of a cylinder of sufficient magnitude and duration, it moves to where it bridges the contacts, completing the electrical circuit and initiating deployment of a safety restraint system. A switch activated by magnetic flux is combined with this type of gas-damped sensor to provide a solid and reliable contact duration and ensure the correct functioning of the sensor. The level of biasing force for crash zone crash sensors of this type has been increased to avoid late firing problems on marginal crashes.

In an alternate embodiment, two similar sensors may be housed in a single enclosure for additional sensitivity. The restrictive elements of the sensors eliminate interference between the sensor magnetic fields.

摘要： An airbag module utilizes tape dispensing cartridges. A tape end extends from each cartridge to the inside surface of an airbag. As the airbag inflates, tape is drawn from the tape cartridges as the tapes are drawn along with the deploying airbag. The rate at which tape is withdrawn from the cartridges is measured by sensible indicia of a magnetic or optical nature positioned on the tape and drawn past a sensor contained within the tape cartridge. The markings on the tape can be nonuniform along the length of the tape. The tape storage area outlet and the cartridge outlet are each formed by two relatively large radius corners. The tape is sealed to the cartridge to prevent the ingress of contaminants. As the airbag withdraws tape from the cartridges, the seals are unseated.

摘要： An airbag deployment sensor stores a quantity of tape which is drawn out of a cartridge during airbag deployment by one end of the tape which is attached to the inside surface of an airbag. To facilitate assembly of an airbag system, the cartridge is designed with a key for locking the tape against premature extraction from the cartridge during the assembly process. The cartridge is used in combination with a mounting bracket which assures that the tape is free to be extracted from the cartridge once the cartridge is mounted to the bracket because, either the cartridge cannot be mounted to the bracket with the key in place, or the mounting bracket causes the key to move to a non-locking position.
