摘要： A multiple headlamp system for vehicles, comprising at least two individual lamps having their filaments connected in electrical series. This permits the use of shorter filaments and hence smaller diameter reflector lamps, without loss of optical control or reflector efficiency, for use in modern cars having low-profile front ends for providing improved aerodynamic streamlining. In a preferred embodiment, a vehicle is provided with two sets of headlamps, each set comprising a pair of individual headlamps each containing a filament at the focal point of the reflector for achieving maximum optical control, and means for connecting the filaments of each pair in electrical series across the vehicle's battery, one lamp of the pair being designed to provide a narrow-beam "punch" light for distant viewing, and the other lamp of the pair being designed to provide a wide-angle beam "spread" light for general viewing.

摘要： Alkali halide crystal is grown from a melt in a novel graphite crucible which has a surface depth region of its inside surface impregnated with glassy carbon to eliminate porosity, so that the melt does not leak through or wet the carbon. Additionally, the graphite may be coated with glassy carbon to provide a smoother surface. Also disclosed is a porous graphite crucible lined with a layer of graphitic pyrolytic carbon to prevent wetting of the surface by the melt and to permit release of the cooled crystal without remelting.

摘要： An inlead for an electric lamp formed of an alloy of tungsten and molybdenum. The inlead has a rate of thermal expansion or contraction approximating that of the glass forming the bulb. This minimizes the expansion/contraction mis-match stress between the two materials. In addition, the alloy composition functions to reduce oxidation and degradation of the lead.

摘要： An improved high efficiency general service incandescent lighting unit is disclosed. The lamp has coaxial outer and inner envelopes. The inner envelope has a low voltage filament coaxially disposed therein, a halogen gas atmosphere and a fill-gas at a high pressure. The outer envelope has a coating of a light transmissive reflective infrared film on its inner surface. Further disclosed are various control systems for reducing a typical 120 v. A.C. voltage and applying the reduced A.C. or D.C. voltage across the low voltage filament within the inner envelope.
