    • A histogram difference method and system for power/performance measurement and management has low data storage requirements while supporting multiple monitoring applications having different update rates. Histogram data for power usage and/or performance mode is collected at a predetermined rate and the histogram data is read out at periodic intervals by the monitoring applications. The monitoring applications subtract the histogram data from previously read histogram data set to determine a interval difference histogram. The minimum and maximum values for the interval are the lowest-valued and highest-valued bin in the interval difference histogram that have a count greater than zero. The average value for the interval is the mean of the interval difference histogram. A conservative bound of the maximum and minimum values for a system can be determined by adding the values of the maximum and minimum values determined for each subsystem in the system.

    • Methods and arrangements for activating Internet Protocol (IP) configurations are contemplated. Embodiments include transformations, code, state machines or other logic for activating in an end node of an IP network an IP configuration suitable for IP communications between the end node and another end node upon the detection of a direct IP connection of the end node to another end node. In some embodiments, the other end node may have a direct IP connect only to the end node. In some embodiments, the suitable IP configuration may involve a static IP address which has been published. In some embodiments, detecting a direct IP connection with another node may be accomplished by detecting a crossed-over Ethernet connection. In alternate embodiments, detecting a direct IP connection to another node may be accomplished by use of a spanning tree algorithm. In some embodiments, an operating system device driver may activate the suitable IP configuration. In other embodiments, an embedded system may activate the suitable IP configuration. In still other embodiments, the suitable IP configurations may be activated under the control of BIOS. While specific embodiments will be described below with reference to particular circuit or logic configurations, those of skill in the art will realize that embodiments of the present invention may advantageously be implemented with other substantially equivalent configurations.

The communication system (22) includes an external interface (24) and a communication control unit (26). The external interface (24), embedded in the vehicle (20), is capable of receiving a first set of teletype signals from a portable TTY terminal (50) and capable of sending a second set of teletype signal to the portable TTY terminal (50). The communication control unit (26), also embedded in the vehicle (20), is connected to the external interface (24) and comprises a controller (36) and a transceiver (34). The transceiver (34) is capable of transmitting messages over a wireless communication link (A) that contain information from the first set of teletype signals. The transceiver (34) is also capable of receiving messages over the wireless communication link (A) that contain information for the second set of teletype signals.

    • Disclosed herein is an automatic frequency changing modulator system that determines the frequency to which a destination radio is currently tuned, sets itself to that frequency, and transmits an audio signal to a user listening to that frequency. The automatic frequency changing modulator system includes a microphone and a radio receiver that are employed in conjunction with a digital signal processor to compare the audio being played back by the destination radio to the signals currently being broadcast. A match between the sampled audio and a broadcast signal determines the frequency to which the destination radio is tuned, and thus determines the frequency on which the automatic frequency changing modulator will transmit. Such a modulator system may advantageously be employed in hands free systems for mobile telephones or to provide other audio inputs in a car, for example, audio prompts from a navigation system.
