    • In accordance with the present invention, there is provided a multi-port bridge where problems in conventional virtual bridging are solved, and especially a multi-port bridge which can be managed with a program that manages only two-port bridges.     • Provided are a method, system, and computer storage device for managing zone information for devices in a network. A zone table includes entries indicating whether devices in at least one zone are permitted to communicate. An attributes table has attributes of the devices indicated in the zone table. A determination is made of attributes from the attributes table for devices indicated in the zone table entries as being permitted to communicate. The entries in the zone table indicating that devices can communicate are verified by determining whether the attributes for the devices indicated as permitted to communicate in the entries in the zone table are consistent with the determined devices being able to communicate. Information is outputted indicating whether the entries in the zone table indicating that devices can communicate are in error.

    • Provided are a method, system, and computer storage device for managing zone information for devices in a network. A zone group table includes entries for different pairs of zones, wherein each entry indicates whether access between a pair of the zones is permitted. An attribute zone table indicates whether devices in the zones are initiator, target and/or initiator/target. For a selected zone, indication is made of whether ports in the devices in the selected zone have an initiator, target and/or initiator/target attribute as indicated in the attribute zone table. A determination is made as to whether all the ports in the devices in the selected zone have the same attribute of initiator, target or initiator/target. If so, a division proposal is indicated for the selected zone proposing to separate devices in the selected zone into at least one new zone.

    • When data are transferred to a cache from disk drives, through a back end I/F unit, a redundant code verifier of a data path controller compares write-history information (a Destaging Counter (DC) value) embedded in a redundant code of the data with a DC value embedded in a redundant code of a corresponding parity, thereby verifying whether the data are imprecise. In addition, in a case where the data are updated, the redundant code verifier makes a similar verification when old data to be used for creating a parity are read. When the data are not imprecise, a redundant code generator of the data path controller adds to new data and the parity a redundant code into which a new DC value has been embedded. When the data are imprecise, a controller informs a host of an occurrence of a problem through a front end I/F unit.
