    • A golf club head having portions of varying density is disclosed and claimed. The club head includes a body with a recess in the back between the heel and toe and extending toward the sole. An insert that is configured to matingly correspond to the recess is positioned within the recess. The insert has a lower specific gravity than the club head body, biasing the club head mass toward the club head perimeter. The insert can form a muscle of the club head. The club head is forged, and the recess is formed by machining. After the insert is positioned within the recess, the club head-insert combination is subjected to additional forging and finishing steps. The present invention increases the club head moment of inertia and/or enlarges the club head sweet spot while retaining the golfer's ability to work the golf ball and shape the golf shot. The present invention can be used with forged, blade, and muscle back clubs, which have not heretofore been enhanced in these manners.

The apparatus includes a support member comprising a shaft made from a rigid material, a snow interface, and an engagement member. The snow interface extends from a first end of the shaft and includes a gliding surface opposing a propulsion surface. The engagement member is coupled to one of the gliding surface and the propulsion surface of the snow interface. The snow interface is positionable between a gliding position and a slowing position. In the gliding position, the gliding surface is positioned in contact with a surface of the snow and the engagement member is positioned out of contact with the surface of the snow. In the slowing position the engagement member is positioned in contact with the surface of the snow.

    • Forged cavity back iron-type clubs and oversize clubs are disclosed. These forged clubs have thin, durable hitting face and relatively large cavity volumes. These clubs have high rotational moments of inertia to minimize distance and accuracy penalties associated with off-center hits. Long irons with hitting face of about 0.100 inch thick are achievable by the present invention. Also disclosed are forged irons made from stainless steels and annealed to achieve the desired hardness and ductility. Further, an interchangeable pin suitable for use in the manufacture of any of a set of iron-type clubs without re-tooling is disclosed. The pin is sized and configured to fit within a through-bore such that an adhesive such as a flexible epoxy may be placed within the gaps to provide a vibration dampening effect.
