摘要： The use of DNA or other charged biomolecules for data storage can include the use of devices to manipulate the biomolecules in solution, e.g., to store and later to selectively read out selected samples of stored biomolecules. Systems and methods provided herein facilitate the electrical manipulation of DNA or other charged biomolecules for data storage or other applications by applying voltages to sets of electrodes arranged along the length of channels of microfluidic devices. The magnitudes and signs of the applied voltages can be controlled to collect DNA into a channel, to retain the collected DNA in the channel for later use, and then to expel the DNA from the channel for readout (e.g., by a pore sequencer integrated into the same microfluidic device as the channel). Such storage channels can have rectangular cross-sections or otherwise include electrodes having substantially planar geometry.

摘要： This disclosure relates to semiconductor quantum cascade lasers (QCLs). A three-terminal QCL device is disclosed. The three-terminal QCL device includes a unipolar multi-period quantum cascade laser structure embedded in a bipolar structure having three terminals providing at least two independently controllable biases to the QCL device for adjusting the lasing intensity and for tuning the lasing wavelength of the QCL device. The three-terminal QCL device further includes a quantum impedance matching structure for achieving high efficiency carrier injection and lowering lasing threshold. In addition, the multi-period quantum cascade laser structure is selectively doped to provide near charge neutrality during operation. The three-terminal QCL may further be controlled to achieve simultaneous dual- or multi-color lasing.

摘要： Systems and methods are provided for encoding information as the pattern of the lengths of RNA tails (or other tail biomolecules, e.g., polypeptides) attached to a dsDNA (or other backbone biomolecule) and the relative locations of attachment thereto. This information can be quickly and accurately read out by passing such information-encoding payload biomolecules through a nanopore and detecting the pattern of conductance of the pore (e.g., the ionic conductance through the pore and/or the transverse conductance of the membrane bearing the pore) as the payload passes therethrough. The conductance can be processed by subtracting a time-varying correction factor therefrom that represents the expected conductance for a ‘tail-free’ backbone as it transits through the pore, by applying a time-varying velocity factor that is dependent on the number of tails present in the pore over time to normalize individual tail dwell times, and/or other processing steps.
