    • A probe coordinate system driving apparatus in which, in a coordinate measuring machine, a probe can be driven in a direction in conformity with the position of the probe to thereby facilitate probe driving operation through joy stick operation. There is provided a probe head capable of freely changing the probe position through setting elevation angle .alpha. and angle of traverse .beta., and unit direction vectors representing the axes of a probe coordinate system in conformity with the probe position are obtained on the basis of the angles set. Vectors obtained from the scalar product of three electric signals output from a joy stick operating unit through the operation by the operator and the three unit direction vectors are synthesized to calculate a drive vector, and the driving of the coordinate measuring machine is controlled in accordance with this drive vector.

    • A device for generating an alarm signal in the event of an environmental abnormality has multiple sensors, with a multiplier associated with each sensor, an adder, and a comparator. The sensors are disposed in respective sensing volumes, which may be different. The sensors detect a level of smoke, heat, gas or other environmental abnormality within each sensing volume, and convert the level into an electrical analog signal. The associated multiplier multiplies a coefficient proportional to the sensing volume for the associated sensor with the analog signals from the sensor. The adder adds the outputs of the multipliers. The comparator generates an alarm signal at an output thereof when the output of the adder exceeds a predetermined value.

    • A device for generating an alarm signal in the event of an abnormality in the environment of a detector includes a pair of signal/power supply lines, a number of detectors for detecting an abnormality, e.g., fire, gas leakage, or burglary, and an alarm receiver including a signal processing circuit for receiving a signal from a detector indicating the presence of an abnormality. The signal process circuit includes a signal storage circuit, and a converting circuit for changing one or a combination of at least two of a polarity, voltage, current, or impedance of a power source if the abnormality persists for a predetermined time. The change in the power source parameter is supplied via the supply lines to a signal holding circuit in the vicinity of the detector. The signal holding circuit is responsive to the changed parameter and changes state, thus providing an indication at the detector that the abnormality has persisted for the predetermined time.

    • In a smoke detector of the type in which smoke is detected in a detection chamber based upon a variation of an ionization current flowing therein or a variation of light beam passing therethrough, there is provided a reference signal generating section which produces a reference signal having a predetermined characteristic corresponding to typical smoke flowing into the detection chamber when a fire occurs, and a signal comparison section which compares a detection signal detected in the detection chamber with the reference signal, wherein a smoke sensing signal is produced when the detection signal is determined as a signal due to a fire but is not produced when the detection signal is determined as the signal due to the entry of an insect into the detection chamber or due to cigarette's smoke flowing thereinto.
