    • A multilayer ceramic substrate with an interlayered capacitor has a large electrostatic capacity and a high flexural strength, such as 1,500 Kg/cm.sup.2 or more, and yet is manufactured at a relatively low firing or sintering temperature. A first ceramic body includes a plurality of laminated first ceramic sheets with a high dielectric constant and with a plurality of internal electrodes sandwiching the respective first ceramic sheets to form capacitors therebetween. A second ceramic body is laminated over one side of the first ceramic body and has a plurality of laminated second ceramic sheets with a low dielectric constant. A plurality of first wiring layers are sandwiched between the second ceramic sheets. A third ceramic body is laminated over the other side of the first ceramic body and has a plurality of laminated third ceramic sheets formed of the same ceramic material that is used to make the second ceramic sheets. The second and third ceramic bodies are thicker than the first ceramic body. A second embodiment of the invention is a hybrid ceramic structure made of glass-ceramic insulator layers sandwiching at least one dielectric layer with interposed circuit patterns formed thereon.

    • An electroluminescent device and corresponding methods for making the same are described. A thin film structure is disposed on top of a ceramic substrate having electrodes embedded therein. Ceramic material of high dielectric constant separates the internal electrodes from the thin-film structure including a transparent electrode layer, a luminescent layer, and at least one insulating layer. The ceramic material may be divided into first and second segments of different dielectric constant, and the internal electrodes may also be divided into separate segments. The manufacturing process includes the preparation of a ceramic green sheet having a dielectric constant greater than 200, printing electrodes on this sheet, and laminating and sintering this sheet together with other green sheets to form a monolithic member over which a further electroluminescent layer and transparent electrodes can be disposed.

    • A printer using ink balls includes ink balls, an injection pipe, an ink ball driving mechanism, a force applying mechanism, and a heating unit. The ink balls are made of an ink material and having a spherical shape at room temperature. The injection pipe injects said ink balls. The ball driving mechanism supplies each ink ball to a predetermined injection position in the injection pipe. The flying force applying mechanism applies a force to cause said ink ball located at the predetermined injection position to fly in response to a drive signal representing a printing timing. The heating unit heats and melts said flying ink ball.

    • A "varistor" or voltage-dependent nonlinear resistor employs a ceramic base body having a voltage-dependent nonlinearity. First and second lead-out electrode layers are formed on first and second external surfaces, respectively, of the ceramic base body. Within and enclosed by the ceramic base body, a plurality of internal electrodes extend in parallel with each other and connect to the external lead-out electrodes. Also, the invention provides a method of manufacturing the voltage-dependent nonlinear resistor comprising the steps of forming a plurality of raw sheets of material, each having the desired voltage-dependent nonlinearity characteristics, after sintering. Internal electrodes of conducting material are printed on each of these sheets. The sheets are then laminated, cut and formed with external electrodes connecting the internal electrode to each other.
