    • An insulin dispenser having a retractable needle cannula and an easy to transport and store disk-shaped body. First and second plungers are removably received in first and second plunger storage chambers that extend through the body. First and second fluid medications are stored in first and second fluid storage chambers that extend through the body. A fluid accumulator having an accumulator plunger moveable therethrough lies in fluid communication with the first and second fluid storage chambers. The first and second plungers are first removed from the first and second plunger storage chambers to be located in and moved through the first and second fluid storage chambers to cause the first and second fluid medications therein to be expulsed to and combined within the fluid accumulator. The accumulator plunger is then moved through the fluid accumulator to cause the combined first and second fluid medications to be injected to a diabetic via the needle cannula.

    • A compact, single use pad applicator is disclosed having a dry medication (e.g. a dehydrated topical astringent disinfectant that is adapted to treat acne and has been reduced to crystalline form by lyophilization) stored in a first chamber. A liquid diluent is stored in a second chamber. Fluid communication between the first and second chambers is blocked by a normally closed, pressure activated valve or seal. By compressing the second chamber, a corresponding hydraulic pressure is generated in the diluent which opens the valve. Accordingly, the diluent in the second chamber is introduced under pressure to the dry medication in the first chamber to rehydrate and activate the acne medication. The reconstituted multi-constituent liquid medication is absorbed by a pad-shaped swab so as to be applied directly to a relatively wide tissue area as a topical treatment for acne or other skin disorders.

    • A puncture evident surgical glove having an integral indicator by which to visually and instantaneously alert the wearer of the need to re-glove should the structural integrity of the glove be compromised by a tear or puncture that could expose the wearer to a contagious and potentially life-threatening disease. Outer and inner membranes are spaced from one another around the finger area of the glove to define a hermetically sealed air inlet path. The indicator is a flexible, hemispherically shaped fluid reservoir (e.g. bulb) that is sandwiched between the outer and inner membranes and adapted to have either a relaxed, inflated condition at which the indicator bulb is filled with air or a compressed, evacuated condition at which air is expulsed from the indicator bulb to the atmosphere. The indicator bulb in the aforementioned compressed, evacuated condition is representative of the fact that the structural integrity of the surgical glove is intact and devoid of a compromising puncture wound or tear. However, should the finger area of the glove be punctured or torn whereby the air inlet path between the outer and inner membranes communicates with the atmosphere, the indicator bulb will automatically recover from the compressed, evacuated condition to the relaxed, inflated condition so as to warn the wearer of the need to remove and discard his glove.

    • A compact single use applicator is disclosed having a dry medication (e.g, a dehydrated or lyophilized astringent disinfectant that is adapted to treat ache and has been reduced to a powder) stored in a flexible mixing chamber. Liquid diluents are stored in first and second flexible chambers. Fluid communication between the diluents in the first and second chambers and the dry medication in the mixing chamber is blocked by normally closed, pressure activated fluid paths. By compressing the first and second chambers, corresponding hydraulic pressures are generated in the diluents thereof which force open the pressure activated paths. Accordingly, the diluents in the first and second chambers are introduced under pressure to the dry medication in the mixing chamber to rehydrate and reactivate the medication. The reconstituted multi-constituent liquid medication is then supplied from the mixing chamber to a dispensing chamber via another normally closed pressure activated fluid path. The liquid medication is absorbed by an applicator pad, or the like, that is surrounded by the dispensing chamber, whereby the medication can be applied via an opening through the dispensing chamber to a relatively wide tissue area as a topical treatment for ache or other skin disorder.

    • A powdered pharmaceutical inhaler (2) includes a source of pressurized gas (4), a pharmaceutical transfer assembly (104) and a mouthpiece assembly (106). The pharmaceutical transfer assembly includes a pharmaceutical reservoir (172, 174) containing undivided supplies of at least one pharmaceutical (173, 175). Quantities of the pharmaceutical are transferred from the pharmaceutical reservoir to an entrainment region along a flow path (188) through the inhaler by one or more dosing members (120-128). By using multiple reservoirs with different pharmaceuticals, a variable dose can be simultaneously inhaled in a single application. An auxiliary ambient air flow path (238) can be used to surround the pressurized gas flow path at the exit of the inhaler. A view port (184) can be used to visually inspect the entrainment region for the presence and amount of pharmaceutical to be inhaled. A preferred embodiment pocket sized and streamlined embodiment includes air compression for assisted inhalation combined with dosing member loading. In the streamlined embodiment, after air compression, an air valve activated by inhalation entrains powered medication in the dosing members for inhalation and consequent dispensing of the prescriptive dosage to the patient.

    • A hand-held inhalation responsive nebuliser by which a nebulised air stream is created for quick and efficient delivery of a fluid medication to the respiratory tract of a patient through the deep lung. The nebuliser includes a normally open electrical switch and a rotatable trigger ring extending laterally across an air flow path through which a supply of non-medicated ambient air is drawn during inhalation by the patient. The ambient air supply drawn through the nebuliser causes the trigger ring to rotate into contact with and close the electrical switch, whereby a piezoelectric disk is energized to vibrate an emitter mesh. A metered volume of fluid medication delivered to the emitter mesh from a pre-filled medication cartridge is accelerated and pulled through the mesh as a fine mist of fluid droplets to form a nebulised medication plume. The nebulised medication plume is mixed in the mouthpiece of the nebuliser with the supply of non-medicated ambient air to create the nebulised air stream.
