    • An ink-jet printer performs formation of an image by jetting an ink from nozzles of an ink-jet head. When a power supply is switched ON after a time measuring section is not capable of measuring time due to the power supply has been switched OFF, then the ink-jet printer outputs to a display section a signal which causes a display control section, provided on a controller, to display a message asking a user whether or not a cleaning operation by a recovery operation control section is to be performed. Accordingly, any unnecessary operation for recovering the jetting function is reduced, solving problems such as waiting time required for performing the operation for recovering the jetting function and that the ink is consumed unnecessarily.

    • An apparatus for maintaining a recording head which has a nozzle opening in a nozzle-defining surface thereof, and ejects, from the nozzle, a droplet of an ink toward a recording medium, in a state in which the recording head is separate from a remaining portion of a recording device.     • An ink-jet printer has an ink-jet head which discharges an ink from nozzles, and an ink supply passage through which the ink is supplied to the ink-jet head. The ink-jet head and the ink supply passage are filled with an initial ink, which is of a same type as that of the ink to be discharged from the nozzles, upon shipping of the ink-jet printer. The ink-jet printer includes a purge mechanism which executes a purge process to forcibly discharge the ink in the ink-jet head and the ink supply passage from the nozzles; an input section which accepts an input from a user; an initial ink detecting section which detects whether or not the initial ink remains in the ink-jet head and the ink supply passage; and a controller which controls the purge mechanism and the input section based on a detecting result of the initial ink detecting section.

The tip end of either seal lip or partitioning lip is shaped so that it is compressed more easily than that of the other.
