    • A tilt lock device 10 comprises a piston 13 having a piston rod 14, an inner cylinder 12 defining the piston 13 into an upper oil chamber S1 and a lower oil chamber S2, and an outer cylinder 11 surrounding the inner cylinder 12. A communication passage 34 is formed in the piston 13 for bringing the upper and lower oil chambers S1 and S2 into communication with each other, and an on-off valve 15 capable of being operated from outside is disposed in the communication passage 34 for preventing oil from flowing from the lower oil passage S2 into the upper oil passage S1, and for also serving as a shock absorbing valve which allows oil to flow from the upper oil chamber S1 to the lower oil chamber S2 when a pressure in the upper oil chamber S1 exceeds a set pressure so as to absorb a shock. An accumulator chamber S3 is formed between the outer and inner cylinders 11 and 12 for also serving as a volume compensation chamber which controls the volume of the oil going in and out through the lower oil chamber S2 following in-and-out movement of the piston rod 14.

    • In a power tilt device, an opening/closing valve is arranged in a free piston, and an operating member is arranged within a piston rod of a piston and piston rod assembly contained within a closed cylinder. The operating member contacts a supply of hydraulic fluid from an opposite piston side space of a free piston to a first chamber above the piston by opening the opening/closing valve when coming into contact with an end wall of the cylinder during an upward tilting phase of the boat motor. Upon contact, the piston rod is extended outside of the cylinder causing a discharge of hydraulic fluid from the first chamber to an external reservoir, during which time the piston side space and the opposite side space of the free piston are fluidly interconnected.

    • A trim-tilt device for marine propulsion devices wherein a cylinder and a piston rod slidably fitted in the cylinder are provided to be connected respectively with a propulsion device which in turn is connected to a hull so as to be rotatable in a vertical plane, and with the hull. A tilt piston is fitted to the tip of the piston rod and a free piston is arranged on the bottom side of the cylinder as opposed to the tilt piston and a trim piston is fitted to the tip of a pipe slidably fitted to the above mentioned piston rod. The trim piston is arranged on the opposite side of the tilt piston as opposed to the free piston and is slidably fitted in the above mentioned cylinder. Oil inlet and outlet ports are provided at both ends of the cylinder Stoppers and check valves are provided for controlling the oil pressure within the piston and cylinder arrangement. The trim-tilt device permits a trimming and tilting operation with a single cylinder.
