    • A compressed air-operated motor driven from a rechargeable compressed air supply tank. The motor has sets of symmetrically opposing cylinders having spring-biased air admission valves and containing drive pistons connected to a crankshaft. The supply tank is connected to the admission valves through respective pilot valves of a pair controlled by relay poppet valves alternately opened by a rotating cam driven by the crankshaft. The pilot valves control the delivery of compressed air alternately to two cylinder groups comprising alternately oppositely located cylinders, so that their pistons act to drive the crankshaft in a common direction by alternate power pulsations.

    • A radial type of fluid-pressure apparatus, such as a pump or motor, wherein a crankshaft is supported for rotation about its axis and has a crankpin radially spaced from its axis and connected with the inner end region of a piston which extends outwardly away from the crankshaft axis and which has an outer end region extending into a chamber of an outer housing structure which surrounds the crankshaft axis. This chamber communicates with a fluid passage. An inner circular housing structure is surrounded by the outer housing structure and surrounds the crankshaft while being formed with an opening through which the piston extends, this inner housing structure having a seat at its opening which surrounds the piston. The latter seat forms part of a sphere. The piston extends slidably through a sleeve which has an outer surface also forming part of the latter sphere and seated on this seat. A spring engages the sleeve to urge the latter into engagement with the seat for maintaining a fluid-tight contact between the sleeve and the seat while at the same time the sleeve can rock with respect to the seat during transmission of motion between the piston and the crankshaft.

    • A backhoe mounted on a wheeled vehicle and having a mechanism for swinging the backhoe boom structure to positions on either side of a central axis. The swing mechanism comprises a pair of expansible chamber motors and a valve means associated with each motor for controlling the flow of pressurized fluid thereto. Each motor is pivotally connected at one end to the vehicle frame and at the other end to the boom structure. Each valve means comprises a valve body fixedly attached to the vehicle frame and having a valve chamber with suitable connections to the source of pressurized fluid and the motor, a rotatable valve partition in the valve chamber, and an actuator arm for rotating the partition pivotally attached to the respective motor. As the motors opeate to swing the boom, pivotal movement of each motor results in coordinated rotation of the valve partitions to control the flow of pressurized fluid through each of the valves.

    • The subject of the invention is an engine that is actuated by a fluid under pressure, preferably water, and comprises one or more oscillating, connecting-rod assemblies (13), including a cylinder (14) and a piston (15), and at least one or more cranks (16) driven by the connecting-rod assemblies (13). For each connecting-rod assembly (13), a preferably stationary valve (20) controls the feed and the discharge of the pressure fluid to and from it, synchronically with the angular position of the corresponding crank (10), and acts as the pivot about which connecting-rod assembly (13) oscillates. The engine can be applied for producing mechanical work in any apparatus, for example in sprinklers, concrete mixers, apparatus for winding cables or garden hose reels, and so on, or for the production of electrical energy. The actuating fluid can be used, after its discharge from the engine, for purposes for which high pressure is not required.
