    • The type of denomination of a coin inserted through a coin slot is discriminated by a coin discriminating section while the coin is being conveyed substantially horizontally by a mechanism for horizontally conveying coins, and the discriminated coin is distributed by coin distributing levers for selectively executing a first distributing operation for distributing coins to a relevant coin accumulating section and a second distributing operation for introducing the coins to an ensuing coin distributing section. As for the coin distributing levers, all the coin distributing levers leading to the coin distributing section corresponding to the discriminated type of denomination are set in a state in which the first distributing operation is prohibited, and subsequently the coin distributing section corresponding to the discriminated type of denomination is caused to effect the first distributing operation, and as the coin to be distributed passes through the coin distributing levers, the state in which the first distributing operation of the coin distributing sections leading to the coin distributing section corresponding to the discriminated type of denomination is prohibited is sequentially canceled.

    • A coin selector includes a horizontal coin conveying unit for forcibly conveying a coin inserted through a coin insert slit in the horizontal direction while the coin is held between an opposing pair of endless belts. The horizontal coin conveying unit is slidably arranged in a housing of the coin selector, and moreover, the space defined by the opposing pair of endless belts is enlarged by turnably opening the opposing pair of endless belt about their one end. The upstream side of the horizontal coin conveying unit is covered with a cover, and a liquid collecting portion is attached to the cover so as to allow a liquid received through the coin insert slit to be quickly discharged outside of the coin selector.

The inserted coins are temporarily held in an escrow passage, the number of temporarily held coins can be determined arbitrarily, and the coins inserted not less than the determined number are returned by an operation of a authentic/counterfeit sorting lever in order to return the inserted coin. And, to collect coins, a return passage lever and a coin box passage lever are operated depending on the states of respective portions so to guide the coins temporarily held in the escrow passage to a coin tube, a return passage or a coin box passage. At the time when the power is turned on, the coin box passage lever is switched toward the coin box passage, and an escrow pin is operated to guide the coins in the escrow passage to the coin box.
