    • According to one embodiment, a disk array control device manages a plurality of drives as a single logical drive. The disk array control device includes a first register configured to store a to-be-accessed drive number which is designated by a host, and a control module. The control module is configured to receive a command from the host, determine whether the received command is a predetermined command which is used for maintenance of each of the drives, and execute, in a case where the received command is the predetermined command, a pass-through process of sending the received command to the drive which is designated by the to-be-accessed drive number in the first register.

    • According to one embodiment, an information processing apparatus includes a memory includes a buffer area, a first storage, a second storage and a driver. Controlling the first and second external storages, the driver comprises a cache reservation module configured to reserve a cache area in the memory. The cache area is logically between the buffer area and the first external storage and between the buffer area and the second external storage. The driver being configured to use the cache area, secured on the memory by the cache reservation module, as a primary cache for the second external storage and a cache for the first external storage, and uses part or the entire first external storage as a secondary cache for the second external storage. The buffer area is reserved in order to transfer data between the driver and a host system that requests for data writing and data reading.

    • According to one embodiment, an information processing apparatus includes an information processing apparatus main body, and a nonvolatile semiconductor memory drive. The semiconductor memory drive includes a control module configured to control execution of data read and write on a nonvolatile semiconductor memory in units of a predetermined number of sectors. In a case where a data size of write data from the information processing apparatus main body is less than a data size of the predetermined number of sectors, the control module reads, from the nonvolatile semiconductor memory, data in a predetermined number of sectors including a sector in which the write data is to be written, and in a case where an error is detected in the read data, the control module stores, in a management table, defective sector information which is indicative of a sector storing the data in which the error is detected.

The main body includes a download control module which externally acquires an unencrypted plain-text header of a firmware module including the plain-text header and an encrypted firmware body, and determines correctness of the firmware module based on comparison between firmware revision information included in the plain-text header and firmware revision information of an existing firmware acquired from the storage drive. The storage drive includes a memory control module which receives the firmware module from the main body, decodes the encrypted firmware body, and rewrites the existing firmware stored in a storage memory as updated firmware using the firmware body when the firmware module is determined as correct based on comparison between information included in the decoded firmware body and information included in the plain-text header.
