    • A method of producing a tracking control signal in a rotary head type magnetic recording and reproducing apparatus and a rotary head type magnetic recording and reproducing apparatus capable of a proper tracking by the use of the tracking control signal. First and second tracking signals are recorded on local portions of each odd-numbered track and the first tracking signal and a third tracking signal are recorded on local portions of each even-numbered track in such a manner that the second tracking signals on two odd-numbered track adjacent to any one even-numbered track are not overlapped with each other and the third tracking signals on two even-numbered tracks adjacent to any one odd-numbered track are not overlapped with each other when viewed in a direction perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the tracks; upon scanning of a track crosstalk signals are detected from two adjacent track simultaneously with reproduction of the first and second or third tracking signals; and the detected crosstalk signals are compared by the use of timing of the reproduction of the first tracking signal for each track thereby producing a tracking control signal. The second tracking signal may have a frequency equal to that of the third tracking frequency.

    • A magnetic recording and reproducing apparatus of rotary head type such as a rotatable video tape recorder has a tape guide for guiding the magnetic tape when the tape runs on and around a cylinder carrying rotary heads. A tape loading movable member carries the tape guide. A tape loading drive is provided for driving the tape loading movable member so as to move the tape guide between a tape loading position where it places the magnetic tape in contact with the cylinder through a predetermined angle and an unloading position where it keeps the magnetic tape away from the cylinder. A locating unit is provided on at least one of the cylinder and a cylinder base carrying the cylinder. The locating unit is adapted for engaging with the tape loading movable member in the tape loading position so as to locate the tape guide with respect to the cylinder. The tape loading drive drives the tape loading movable member by making use of the mechanical motion of a cassette holder for mounting the cassette on a predetermined portion of the apparatus.

    • Movable members of a tape guide member for tape loading are disposed in plural numbers on both the upstream side and the downstream side of a tape running path with respect to a rotatable cylinder, or are disposed in plural number on at least either the upstream side or the downstream side. The plurality of movable members are disposed offset from each other in the radial direction of the rotatable cylinder. Tilt guides for converting the tape running direction are disposed between the associated movable members, and fixed to the stationary component side. A guide passage forming member along which the movable members are guided is also fixed to the stationary component side. Guide portions of the guide passage forming member are provided in plural number individually associated with the movable members. The guide portion nearer to the rotatable cylinder is set to always have a larger tilt angle than that of the outer guide portion with the plane of a tape cassette being a reference. The tilt angles of the guide portions are made different from each other between the upstream side and the downstream side, and are set to direct upwardly with respect to the loading direction at least on either one of the upstream side and the downstream side. A tape tension control member is disposed along the associated guide portion for being rotated about a stationary fulcrum upon movement of the movable member of the tape guide member.
