    • A piezo-electric/electrostrictive film type chip (50) includes: a ceramic substrate (70) having a spacer plate (74) having a windows-disposed pattern (100) having a plurality of window portions (75) and a thin closure plate (72) for closing the window portions (75) which is unitarily connected with the spacer plate; and a piezo-electric/electrostrictive working portion (71) having a lower electrode (81), a piezo-electric/electrostrictive layer (82), and an upper electrode (83), each being formed in the form of a layer and laminated in this order at a closure portion of the window (75) on the outer surface of the closure plate (72) by a film formation method. A pin hole (52) for positioning is formed in or near the center of gravity of the windows-disposed pattern (100). Deterioration of positional preciseness of the pin hole and a through hole of the piezo-electric/electrostrictive actuator can be minimized, and the piezo-electric/electrostrictive actuator can be unitarily connected with an ink nozzle member with high positional preciseness.

    • An actuator unit for a laminated ink jet recording head includes: a first cover member for forming a vibrating member having piezoelectric vibrators on a surface thereof; a spacer for forming pressure generating chambers with a surface thereof sealed by the first cover member; a second cover member having ink jetting outlets and ink flowing inlets, each ink jetting outlet causing the corresponding pressure generating chamber to communicate with a corresponding nozzle opening of a flow path unit at one end of the pressure generating chamber, each ink flowing inlet causing the corresponding pressure generating chamber to communicate with a common ink chamber of the flow path unit at the other end of the pressure generating chamber. The actuator unit is prepared by laminating and fixing the first cover member, the spacer and the second cover member. A pitch at which the pressure generating chambers are arranged is set to a value equal to or smaller than a pitch at which the nozzle openings are arranged; widths of partition walls on outermost ends of pressure generating chambers located on the outermost ends are set to a value equal to or greater than a width of a partition wall defining adjacent pressure generating chambers and equal to or smaller than 1/2 of the nozzle opening arrangement pitch. An increase in the distance between the adjacent pressure generating chambers at the contact line between two actuator units is set to within a range of values substantially equal to the width of the partition wall.

A piezoelectric layer (47) has a main portion (47a) in a diameter smaller than that of the concavity (43), and the whole thereof is within the concavity area, and almost overall the main portion (47a) excluding the part corresponding to the notch (46c) is laminated on the first electrode (46). An auxiliary electrode (48) extends from the outside of the concavity area into the inside thereof and a part thereof is positioned within the notch (46c) of the first electrode (46) and supports a part of the piezoelectric layer (47). A second electrode (49) has a main portion (49a) laminated on the piezoelectric layer (47) and an extension part (49b) which extends from there and is connected to the auxiliary electrode (48) within the concavity area. The residual vibration state of a vibration part of a liquid-detecting device can be detected easily and surely, and generation of cracks in the piezoelectric layer can be prevented.
