    • A plurality of scanning electrodes and a plurality of sustaining electrodes parallel to each other are located on an inner face of a first glass substrate. Each of the scanning electrodes and each of the sustaining electrodes form a pair. A dielectric layer and a protection layer are formed on the first glass substrate in this order, covering the electrodes. A plurality of data electrodes perpendicular to the scanning electrodes and the sustaining electrodes are located on an inner face of a second glass substrate which is located opposed to the first glass substrate with a discharge space interposed therebetween. In an AC-type PDP having such a structure, at least one of the plurality of scanning electrodes and the plurality of sustaining electrodes are divided into a plurality of groups, and pulses having different phases are applied to the electrodes in different groups, thereby causing sustaining discharge. The scanning electrodes and the sustaining electrodes may be comb-like with teeth. The comb-like scanning electrodes and the comb-like sustaining electrodes are opposed to each other with a small gap interposed therebetween in the manner that the teeth thereof are in engagement with each other. In such a case, the data electrodes are located opposed to and in a longitudinal direction of the teeth of the scanning electrodes.

    • Disclosed is an AC plasma display device for preventing an error discharge, improving a luminous intensity, and applicable to high definition display. The device includes a front substrate, which has display electrodes in parallel to each other and a non-display line. The line and the display electrode are arranged alternately each other on the front substrate. Further, the device comprises a rear substrate, which has a plurality of data electrodes extending in a direction perpendicular to the display electrodes. The rear substrate forms a discharge space between itself and the front substrate, defines a gap of the discharge space, and has a partition in a belt shape placed between adjoining data electrodes. Furthermore, the rear substrate has a barrier between the partitions at a position facing to the non-display portion so as to have width corresponding to the non-display portion, form a gap between itself and the front substrate, and prevent an error discharge between the display electrodes.

    • An alternating current (AC) plasma display panel is provided that emits little electromagnetic waves and which has no brightness irregularity. In this panel, pairs of scan electrodes and sustain electrodes are provided in rows, and data electrodes arranged orthogonally to the pairs of scan electrodes and sustain electrodes constitute a matrix. A conductor is disposed in each row in parallel with the scan electrodes and the sustain electrodes. The scan electrodes are coupled with a scan electrode driving circuit on the left side of the panel. The conductors are electrically coupled with the sustain electrodes on the right side of the panel and are connected with a sustain electrode driving circuit on the left side of the panel. When a sustain pulse voltage is applied, a current runs through the conductors in a direction reverse to a direction of the sustaining discharge current running through the scan electrodes and the sustain electrodes.

    • An AC plasma display panel in which variation in display luminance and occurrence of error display are suppressed is provided. A first insulating substrate and a second insulating substrate are positioned opposing each other. On the first insulating substrate, a scanning/sustain-electrode group including a plurality of sets of a scanning electrode and a sustain electrode that are arranged in parallel to each other and a dielectric layer covering the scanning/sustain-electrode group are provided. A plurality of data electrodes that are orthogonal to and opposing the scanning electrode and the sustain electrode are provided on the second insulating substrate. Discharges between the scanning electrode and the sustain electrode allow phosphors to emit light. Each of the plurality of sets includes, as a unit, the scanning electrode and the sustain electrodes positioned on both sides of the scanning electrode, and the plurality of sets are separated from one another.
