    • An electrical connector assembly (10) includes an insulating housing (12) and assembled thereto a plurality of terminal modules (30) and electrically conductive shields (60) therebetween. Each terminal module (30) includes an alternating pattern of first and second contacts (42,44), the intermediate portions (50) thereof being formed at selected locations therealong such that the intermediate portions of the first contacts (42) are encapsulated in the insulating web (54) proximate a first side surface (32) and the intermediate portions of the second contacts (44) are encapsulated in the web (54) proximate the second major surface (34) of the module. In the assembled connector (10), the first contacts (42) are spaced more closely to shield (60) along surface (32) and the second contacts (44) are spaced more closely to shield (60) along surface (34) thereby assuring primary coupling between each signal contact (40) and a respective ground shield (60) rather than to an adjacent signal contact (40).

The inner and outer surfaces (46, 62) provide a large adhered surface area and multiple shear planes that distribute stress upon impact and minimizing propagation of cracks in the adhesive joint thereby maintaining the integrity of the sleeve (42) and end cap (60).

    • An electrical connector for mating with a complementary connector receptacle is provided and includes a housing configured and adapted for selective matable connection with a corresponding complementary connector receptacle; a pair of latch arms provided on opposite sides of the housing; and a pair of latch guards extending from the sides of the housing and overlying at least a portion of a respective latch arm. Accordingly, as a latch arm is twisted about the hinge joint, at least a portion of the latch arm abuts against the respective latch guard and additional twisting of the latch arm about the hinge joint is prevented.

    • A terminal for use with a zero insertion force socket is disclosed which electrically connects a mating connector to a printed circuit board or the like. The terminal has a pin engaging portion which has a pair of nonsymmetrical contact arms which are positioned to make electrical engagement with the mating pin. A first contact arm of the pair of contact arms is configured to have a longer electrical path across which signals are transmitted than a second contact arm. The first contact arm also has a reduced cross section compared to the second contact arm, such that the first contact arm is configured to have a matched inductance to the second contact arm. A retention portion extends from the pin engaging portion. Side edges of the retention portion are dimensioned to create a frictional interference with side wall of a cavity of the socket. A mounting portion extends from the retention portion in an opposite direction from the pin engaging portion. The mounting portion has at least one resilient leg which extends from the retention portion to a solder pad which is soldered to a substrate. The solder pad is spaced from the retention portion a sufficient distance to allow the at least one resilient leg to provide the resilient characteristics required to allow the at least one resilient leg to resiliently compensate for misalignment or movement of the solder relative to the solder pad.
