    • An alkaline battery including a positive electrode of a hollow cylindrical shape disposed in contact with an inner surface of a bottomed cylindrical battery case, a gelled negative electrode, a separator, and an alkaline electrolyte. The separator includes a cylindrical separator disposed in contact with the inner side surface of the positive electrode, and a bottom separator covering an opening of the cylindrical separator in the bottom side of the battery case. The bottom of the battery case includes: an annular base portion for supporting the positive electrode; an annular intermediate portion provided inwardly of the base portion, for supporting the bottom separator; and a terminal portion protruding outwardly from the intermediate portion. The intermediate portion has an inclined surface on the inner bottom surface of the battery case, the inclined surface being inclined downwardly from the base portion toward the terminal portion.

    • A leak-proof alkaline dry battery including a battery case and a seal unit for closing the opening of the battery case. The seal unit includes: a negative electrode terminal plate; a negative electrode current collector nail electrically connected to the terminal plate; and a resin seal member. The resin seal member includes: a central cylindrical part having an opening through which the body of the negative electrode current collector nail is inserted; an outer peripheral cylindrical part interposed between a peripheral edge of the negative electrode terminal plate and an open edge of the battery case; a connecting part interconnecting the central and outer peripheral cylindrical parts; and a thinned section formed in the connecting part. The body of the negative electrode current collector nail is fitted to the opening of the central cylindrical part in a particular fit relation to prevent leakage for a long time.

    • A method for producing an alkaline primary battery includes: (1) forming a cylindrical positive electrode having a hollow; (2) inserting a cylindrical separator with a bottom into the hollow of the positive electrode, the separator including: a wound cylindrical portion; and a bottom portion that is substantially U-shaped in cross-section, the bottom portion covering an opening of the cylindrical portion at a lower end thereof and having an upstanding portion that extends along a lower outer face of the cylindrical portion; and (3) injecting an electrolyte into the separator. The amount of the electrolyte injected into the separator in the step (3) is sufficient to impregnate the positive electrode and the separator and immerse a lower end of the cylindrical portion of the separator in the electrolyte remaining in the separator, thereby bringing the lower end of the cylindrical portion into contact with the upstanding portion.
