    • A carrier for a window regular. The regulator includes a vertical rail defining a vertical track, a glass carrier adapted to receive a lower edge of the window glass and mounted for vertical sliding movement along the track and a cable having an upper end terminating in an enlarged head and a lower end terminating in an enlarged head, the carrier having a lower receptacle proximate the lower region of the carrier receiving the head of the upper cable end with the upper cable end extending vertically upwardly therefrom, whereby upward pulling movement on the upper cable end moves the carrier upwardly along the track, and an upper receptacle proximate an upper region of the carrier receiving the head of the lower cable end with the lower cable end extending vertically downwardly therefrom, whereby downward pulling movement on the lower cable end moves the carrier downwardly along the track. The vertically upwardly extending upper cable end and the vertically downwardly extending lower cable end are vertically aligned, whereby they may pass each other in either left/right or right/left mix without substantial displacement of either cable end from its natural vertical position.

    • A sliding window assembly for use with a motor vehicle such for example as the rear window of the cab of a pickup type truck. A guide structure mounts a sliding pane for longitudinal sliding movement generally parallel to the plane of the pane between an open position and a closed position, and a lateral thrust mechanism is provided which is operative in response to arrival of the pane in its closed position to thereafter move the pane laterally relative to the plane of the pane into a position wherein the exposed face of the pane is flush with a surrounding vehicle surface such for example as the surface defined by fixed panes in the rear window of a pickup truck. The lateral movement of the pane is accomplished by a guide pin on the glass received in a compound guide slot defined by a fixed guide structure, a slider slidably mounted in a fixed guide structure for movement parallel to the plane of the pane, and a drive mechanism interconnecting the pane and the slider and operative with the pin positioned in a first portion of the compound slot to move the glass along the fixed guide structure in a direction generally parallel to the plane of a pane and operative with the pin positioned in a second angled portion of the compound slot to move the glass pane laterally relative to the plane of the pane.

    • An improved automatic length-adjusting end fitting for a cable assembly consisting of a conduit and a wire slidably positioned therein reacts to increases in the length of the wire and/or decreases in the length of the conduit by automatically lengthening the conduit to thereby take up a portion of the slack in the wire and return the cable assembly to its desired condition. The fitting includes a hollow housing and a cylindrical core disposed therein for sliding and rotating movement with respect to the housing. The conduit is connected to the end of the core and the wire extends completely through the core and housing. The outer surface of the core has three recesses, each of which forms a series of stair-step notches. Three axially aligned ridges are disposed on the interior surface of the housing engage respective notches, depending on how far the core is inserted into the housing. A coil spring urges the core outwardly from the housing and rotates the core to urge the ridges into engagement with the notches. When the slack in the wire increases beyond the desired amount, the spring forces the core outwardly until the ridges slide off the inner end of their notches and the spring rotates the core to bring the ridges into detented engagement with the next notch inward from that which they previously engaged.

The glass carrier additionally includes a cushioned support member for supporting the lower edge of the window glass. The cushioned support member includes a horizontally extending member, which includes a retaining member, and a cushion received by the horizontally extending member and secured by the retaining member. The cushion is formed from a polypropylene material, which is a different material than the horizontally extending member.

    • The present specification provides a rear window assembly for a vehicle having a window frame, at least one fixed window panel whose perimeter edge defines a portion of an opening, a movable window panel capable of opening or closing the opening and that is allowed to slidably move past the surface of the fixed window panel, a seal member present on the perimeter surface of at least one of the window panels, and a closure track integrally formed in at least one edge of the window frame. The closure track may force the movable window panel and the fixed window panel closer together, thereby, placing the seal member under compression.
