    • A process for producing an aromatic polyester carbonate resin in which the molar ratio of the dihydric phenolic compound residue to aromatic dicarboxylic acid residue to carbonate bond is in the range of 2:0.5:1.5-2:1.4:0.6 and these constituent components form an alternating configuration of high regularity, said process comprising a first step wherein in producing a hydroxyl-terminated aromatic oligocarbonate by reacting a dihydric phenolic compound with a halogenated carbonyl compound in a reaction medium consisting of water and a water-immiscible solvent in the presence of a basic inorganic compound, the reaction is carried out by using the basic inorganic compound in an amount of 0.6-1.6 moles per mole of the dihydric phenolic compound and the halogenated carbonyl compound in an amount of 0.3-0.8 mole per mole of the dihydric phenolic compound to form a reaction product mixture consisting predominantly of a phenolic hydroxyl-terminated oligocarbonate of a degree of polymerization of 1-3, and a second step in which an esterification reaction is carried out by reacting the reaction product mixture obtained in the first step with an aromatic dicarboxylic acid dichloride in the presence of a basic inorganic compound in an amount at least sufficient to neutralize the free phenolic hydroxyl groups that remain in the reaction product mixture.

    • A surface-treating paint for shaped plastic articles, said paint being the reaction product of(1) 50 to 95 mole % of an epoxyalkylalkoxysilane of the general formula ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 represents a divalent hydrocarbon group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 represent a monovalent hydrocarbon group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, Q represents a glycidoxy or epoxycyclohexyl group, and m is 0 or 1, and(2) 50 to 5 mole % of a fluorinated alcohol of the general formulaH--CF.sub.2 CF.sub.2).sub.p CH.sub.2 OH (II) wherein p is an integer of 1 to 7.The paint may further contain 50 to 5% by weight of the reaction product of (a) 80 to 30 mole % of an epoxyalkylalkoxysilane of general formula (I) with (b) 20 to 70 mole % of an aminoalkylalkoxysilane of the general formula ##STR2## wherein R.sup.1, R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 are as defined with regard to general formula (I), Z represents a hydrogen atom or an aminoalkyl group, and n is 0 or 1, or a partially hydrolyzed product of the reaction product.

    • A surface-coating composition for plastic articles, which comprises as a film-forming agent (A) a mixture of the reaction of an aminoalkylalkoxy silane of the general formula ##STR1## WHEREIN R.sup.1 represents a divalent hydrocarbon group containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms, R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 represent a monovalent hydrocarbon group containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms, Z represents a hydrogen atom or an aminoalkyl group, and n is 0 or 1, with an epoxyalkylalkoxy silane of the general formula ##STR2## WHEREIN R.sup.1, R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 are as defined above, Q represents a glycidoxy group ##STR3## or an epoxycyclohexyl group, and m is 0 or 1, and (B) a mixture of an alkyl-modified methylol melamine of the general formula ##STR4## wherein R.sup.4, R.sup.5, R.sup.6, R.sup.7, R.sup.8 and R.sup.9 represent a hydrogen atom or a monovalent hydrocarbon group with 1 to 4 carbon atoms, and an alkyd resin; the amount of component (A) being 45 to 80% by weight, and the amount of component (B) being 20 to 55% by weight, both based on the total amount of components (A) and (B). The composition may further contain (C) an acrylic acid derivative of the general formula ##STR5## wherein R.sup.10 represents a hydrogen atom or a methyl group, and R.sup.11 represents a hydrogen atom, a hydrocarbon group containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms, a hydroxyalkyl group or a glycidyl group, or its polymer of a low degree of polymerization, the amount of component (C) being 5 to 30% by weight based on the total amount of components (A), (B) and (C).

    • A method of treating the surface of a shaped article of a polycarbonate resin, which comprises coating the shaped article of the polycarbonate resin with a specific pre-treating solution (I), air-drying the coated article, then coating the article with a specific coating composition (II), and heat-curing the coated article. The pre-treating solution (I) contains a bisphenol type epoxy resin in a mixed solvent of a lower alcohol and an alkyl ether of ethylene glycol, and the coating composition (II) comprises (A) a reaction mixture of an aminoalkylalkoxy silane of the formula (1) with an epoxyalkylalkoxy silane of the formula (2); (B) a mixture of an alkyl-modified methylol melamine of the formula (3) with an alkyd resin; and (C) an acrylic acid derivative of the formula (5) or its polymer of a low degree of polymerization, the formulas (1), (2), (3) and (5) being given in the claim.
