    • The invention provides a pressure application driving unit of a welding gun that is safe, low in manufacturing cost, and compact as a whole by employing a hollow rotary shaft of the ordinary motor as it is and fixing a screw shaft fixing member to an end face of the rotary shaft, thereby reciprocating a pressure application shaft by the rotation of a screw shaft. The pressure application driving unit of a welding gun comprises a hollow through hole formed in a rotary shaft of a motor, a pressure application shaft having a portion pulled in the hollow through hole of the motor via a screw shaft to be driven by the motor, a hole for housing a tip end side of the screw shaft formed on the center portion of the pressure application shaft in the axial direction of the pressure application shaft, a nut at the end side of the pressure application shaft and a screw of the screw shaft are threaded with each other, the pressure application shaft side being nonrotatable, and a space formed in the hollow through hole and capable of housing the nut that is threaded with the screw shaft, wherein a screw shaft fixing member is fixed to tap holes formed on an end face of the rotary shaft of the motor and the screw shaft is fixed in the screw shaft fixing member.

    • There is provided a friction stir spot joining device to eliminate the generation of tipping torque caused by a pressing force by allowing the axis of a ball screw for generating the pressing force and the center of a shaft of a stirring motor to be coincident with each other, thereby allowing the device to be downsized and the device to effect joining operation with ease. The friction stir spot joining device comprises a ball nut fixed to the rear end side the stirring motor, a hole is defined in an output shaft of the stirring motor in which the ball screw is housed from a rear portion of the hole so as to be positioned in the hole, wherein a rotating force of the pressing motor is transmitted to the ball screw and the stirring motor is moved forward and backward by the ball nut threaded with the ball screw.

    • A motor-driven resistance spot welding machine includes: a drive rod having an electrode tip on an end thereof and making a linear motion; a linear guide for guiding the linear motion of the drive rod, the linear guide including a bearing; and a reduction gear being supported by a gun arm or a gun bracket. The machine also linearly drives the drive rod in an electrode force direction by transmitting an output torque of an electric motor to the reduction gear. In the machine, a rear portion of the drive rod is connected to a swing lever through a link, the swing lever being secured either to an output shaft of the reduction gear or to a main body of the reduction gear, whereby an arcuate motion is transmitted to the swing lever by an output of the electric motor, and is then converted into a linear motion of the drive rod by the link to thereby drive the drive rod so as to apply electrode force. As a result of this construction, the reduction gear is sealed, so that the reduction gear is free from welding splashes. Such problems as the large moment of inertia (GD.sup.2) and the restricted strokes of the ball-bearing leadscrew and the nut can be overcome. Further, gun parts are grouped by function. That is, the functions are unitized into a drive unit for generating electrode force, and a welding unit including the electrode tips, the gun arm, the welding transformer, and the like, so that parts are unitized into common parts so as to be standardized. Further, a new bracket which can be used irrespective of the posture of the gun attached to the robot can be realized.
